A profound and provocative journey through the human body from the award-winning writer, broadcaster and surgeon. What does it mean to live in a body? For Gabriel Weston, there was always something missing from the anatomy she was taught at medical school. Medicine teaches us how a body functions, but it doesn't help us navigate the reality of living in one. As she became a surgeon, a mother, and ultimately a patient herself, Weston found herself grappling with the gap between scientific knowledge and unfathomable complexity of human experience. In this captivating exploration of the body, Weston dissolves the boundaries that usually divide surgeon and patient, pushing beyond the limit of what science has to tell us about who we are. Focusing on our individual organs, not just under the intense spotlight of the operating theatre, but in the central role they play in the stories of our lives, a fuller and more human picture of our bodies emerges: more fragile, frightening and miraculous than we could have imagined.Intimate, penetrating and original, Alive is an anatomy like no other, about our bodies and bonds, the richness and brevity of existence, and the thread of mortality that connect us all.

'I feel like there's a leopard in my house, locked in a room. I've contacted the leopard authorities and they assure me they are used to dealing with leopards like this, and they have a plan for removing the leopard. It will take a while, though, and once in a while I can hear it growl. And that's all very reassuring. Even so, several times a day I think to myself: "Hang on, there's a leopard in my house."'One morning, while shaving, the comedian Mark Steel noticed that one side of his neck seemed larger than the other. After a whistlestop tour of assorted medical professionals, a consultant delivered the ominous words that would define the next months of his life: 'I'm afraid it's not good news, Mr Steel'.And so began a journey into the heart of the NHS, as he embarked on the long and uncertain road to cancer recovery via a range of mildly torturous and entirely miraculous treatments. What, if anything, might he learn about himself - and our capacity for coping with life when times get tough - as he becomes part of a club that one in two British people will ultimately join?A frank and funny diary of one man's rather trying year, this is an unforgettable and uplifting story of getting ill, getting on with it, and getting better.

Juggling her day job for the NHS as a physiotherapist, with round-the-clock care for Rob, who cannot move or talk, and can only eat with Lindsey's assistance, she has simultaneously raised her brilliant young family and helped to raise awareness for MND. The efforts of Rob, Lindsey and Kevin Sinfield have raised over £15 million for charity. In 2024, Lindsey presented her debut ITV1 documentary, 'Who Cares for Our Carers?' which highlighted the emotional and practical hardships faced by thousands of her fellow unpaid carers, whose hidden work is worth an estimated £162bn a year in the UK, the equivalent of another NHS. Told in Lindsey's characteristically humble, charming and inspirational style, Take Care explores her life and shares her honest experiences of finding strength in the good and the bad times, in order to offer readers and families hope to overcome challenges in their own lives. The book sheds a light on the many families across the UK who care for their loved ones with little support. Finally, the book is a rousing call to action, for us all as a society to take better care of one another. This book is a complete guide that touches every aspect of motherhood from child loss, pregnancy, and childbirth to the first months with a newborn. It allows us to prepare deeply and learn to free ourselves from misbeliefs, limitations, anxiety, and fear. The environment in which we give birth, our attitude, have such a big impact on ourselves but also on the future of our children. When I managed to give birth on my own without an epidural for my second child, it struck me, I had just discovered something major! I had just experienced a superpower. I was a new version of myself just as if I had awakened from a long sleep, I had awakened from ignorance. I felt the urge to share my experience on how to live pregnancy and childbirth in the present moment with mindfulness. In this book, all the tools will help you take care of yourself, create a powerful bond with your baby and lead you on the path to deliverance.

Hi, my book is about how I was tested by the enemy to see how far I can handle my situation. The enemy really wanted to know if I truly loved God and I was put to the test. It was not easy because I felt I was trapped in my mind and that nobody understood what I was going through. My mind was like in a dark place and couldn't find a way out. Every time I tried to do the things I'm supposed to do in order to overcome my thoughts, it was hard. But I knew God didn't leave me and I had to use my faith like never before. The enemy was trying to convince me that God did not love me and that I was alone. I sometimes felt that way but it's normal because this life is to be lived by faith and not what we see or feel. I talk about my experiences and thoughts I had but I also talk how I overcame all of them(with prayer, worship and using the word of Christ). Sometimes we wonder why things like these happen to our lives but it's to make us a better person and to realize that we are not the only ones that go through these situations. It doesn't matter how long it takes to be healed, just don't give up and always trust God even if you don't see or feel Him. I had to really trust God and put my part, to get up and not stay on the floor.
