I wrote this book after years of struggling as a single mom. I compiled all the little tricks and tips that has saved me time, money, and tears. I know how busy it is to be a single parent, so you will find this book to be a short and easy read. I wanted to offer tangible and practical advice that you could put into practice right away. With a little humor and a lot of grace, we can not only get through this, but we can do it well!
This book seeks to provide a strategy for when a child gets lost. We all need something to do when we feel lost and thats the purpose of this book. Sit down, cry out to God and He will provide an answer. Through a simple lesson of going to the woods to draw, you and your child can make a plan, brainstorm how to make a problem better and use this time to say whats on each of your hearts. The Lords Prayer has historically been a passage children were taught at an early age. Knowing God is with you anywhere and anytime will help your child to stay calm in a crisis. We all know God is love, but its good to know you are never alone. By discussing His love and staying calm in any circumstance, hopefully, a child will know what to do. Use this book to talk about conflict resolution, facing the unknown and never giving up. In the back pages, there are discussion questions and a personal page to celebrate that your child has learned the Lords Prayer.
Home is a place of belonging, a place of eternal meaning, and it represents a taste of the new home, waiting for those who have been bought with a price. Until then, we have been commissioned to reach the world, starting with the particular geography where God has planted us. I love Tricias emphasis on using our homes, millions of his embassies around the world, to welcome others to taste the love of God. Its a reflection of the many interactions Jesus had in homes. I hope this book will give women a vision for home-based God-expectant influence in their neighborhoods and communities (Barbara Rainey, FamilyLife & Ever Thine Home). Sometimes the most intimidating place to take the gospel is across the streetto your family, friends, and neighbors. In this book, Tricia shares the simple and practical tools she uses to invite those living in her Jerusalem into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Make disciples of all nationsincluding your ownbecomes less daunting using the advice Tricia offers in the pages of Simple Parties, Significant Impact (Kurt Nelson, president and CEO of East-West Ministries International). Jesus said, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation (Mark 16:15). Did you know this can be done in the comfort of your own home? The whole creation will come right to your doorstep if you ask them. Learn how to host a simple party with a significant impact. You will be glad you did!
Parenting can be the toughest journey a person ever makes. The author transparently addresses the difficult parts of this role while pointing us to some practical ways of thinking and relating with children to lighten the responsibility. This book is as fascinating as Amy Chuas Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother memoir, as relatable as Jen Hatmakers Christian foibles, as uplifting as Iyanla Vanzants inspirational messages, and backed by solid research of the likes of Brene Brown. By deftly combining four of Americas favorite genres into one enjoyable read, the author does not force us to compare and choose one world view over another, but honors all. Kim understands the unique challenges and opportunities that arise when youre parenting in a culture different than the one in which you were raised. Her words are wise and just what you need to figure out what is best for your family! Jill Savage, author of Better Together: Because Youre Not Meant to Mom AloneThis is an insightful book, full of sound and practical advice. I highly reccommend it. Dr. Helen Mendes Love, MSW, author of Reflections on the Upsides of AgingKim gives invaluable insight on the intricacies of parenting in a more globalized and culturally-relevant world, while respecting tradition and heritage.Sam Louie, M.A., LMHC, author of Asian Shame and Addiction: Suffering in SilenceHumorous, yet educational, this book is a must read for any parent. Erika Olivares Sumner, Life & Wellness Coach, Mother of Three
According to research, there are 50,000 predators online at any given time (Thomas, n.d.). These individuals are likely luring profiles or hiding in chat rooms in search of vulnerable children. Predators know that a growing number of children are now on the Internet, therefore, they monopolize the opportunity because it allows easy access and increased chances to privately communicate with them. Unfortunately, predators are not the only threat online. According to research there are over 5 million Facebook users under the age of 10, although Facebook prohibits users under the age of 13, (Hopkinson, 2015). In addition, there are over 80 million fake profiles on Facebook (Chauhan, 2016). With the increase accessibility of social media, criminals often create fake profiles online to capitalize on the opportunity to steal more than identity. Parents, beware! As a consequence of the many hidden dangers online, parents should be concerned and learn ways to increase youth safety. This self-help manuscript will provide information to help parents help their children have a safe and rewarding Internet experience. Readers will receive the following benefits: explore the pros and cons of technologylearn techniques for proper usage of modern technologygain knowledge of potential risks such as: cyberbullying, sexting, predators, exploitation and otherslearn about secret apps and codes children use to hide their online activitiesacquire knowledge to implement safety onlineimplement and explain the rules for computer and Internet usagedevelop a trusting relationship to improve parent and child communication risk, safety and responsibilitiesreceive additional resources offering information and help
Homeless Al is a fun and clever way to introduce social issues to a young child. Al lives in Cleveland with his mom, and Oscar the fish. They are forced to leave their home and move into a homeless shelter. Through the difficult times, Al and his mom hold onto their faith in God. When winter and the New Year arrive, nice people begin to give. Al and his mom now have a new place to live. Have you ever sat in the stands or sidelines and listened to parents yell at their kids and thought, "e;There is something wrong here?"e; Does your child show passion and potential in a sport but feels an unhealthy amount of pressure that is leading them to want to quit the sport they used to love so much? The reality is, the approach society is taking to competitive youth sports as a whole is unhealthy, but it doesn't have to be that way. I am not an advocate for everybody wins; I love competition. I believe that with the correct perspective and approach youth athletics can be used to mold our children into Christ-like, confident, and joyful adults. By focusing on the journey rather than the destination players and parents can learn to find value in all of the life lessons that come through competition. This book is a guide that is inspired through twenty-four years of coaching and watching parents who got it right and the others who missed out on the opportunity to use youth athletics to instill Christ-like characteristics and perspectives in their children. The true prize in athletics isn't a trophy or even a scholarship, it is in the life lessons that everyone has available to learn if they are willing to look for them.
What is a calling? What is a spiritual gift? More importantly, why doesn't Janey have either? They say everyone is special in their own way, but the closest Janey gets to special is being especially average. Comparing herself to her "e;great at everything with perfect looks to boot"e; best friend Preston, doesn't exactly help. She feels like she is drifting through life without contributing anything to anyone. At seventeen, she doesn't expect to have her life all figured out but she desperately wants to know what God has planned for her. With determination, she vows to find her spiritual calling and get started doing God's work immediately, but distractions wait around every corner. Will she try to hard? Will she wait for God to show her the way, or will she dive in too deep?

The Gifts of Christmas is about a little girl who fell in love with winter and the holiday that surrounds it. She goes into great detail of what it felt like to wake up to Christmas morning being surrounded by her big family, and later making snowmen with her siblings. This story uses excellent descriptors which allow the reader to truly feel apart of the scenes. It also depicts a family who love each other and who were best of friends during their childhood.
Leola Jackson, born and bred in the Deep South, narrates her experiences as a black girl whose entire life was defined by Jim Crow boundary lines. These invisible lines, which were drawn and enforced by the authority of Southern laws and customs, told Leola and her friends where they could live, where they could go to school, where they could sit on a public bus, where they could sit and eat in a public place, where they were allowed to worship, and even how high their dreams and aspirations could take them. Leola never had many dreams. She always figured shed grow up to become a housemaid just like her single-parent mom. However, in 1954 when Leolas story begins, surprising things were happening in the nation, as well as inside Leolas tiny world. The winds were whispering that changes, later known as the Civil Rights Movement, were coming that would soon transform the nation and especially black Americans lives forever.
Although Brave was a surprise four-week premature baby, he weighed way more than many of the full-time babies. Thankfully, he was in great shape and was able to come home like a normal baby. He was a happy boy hitting time lines until he hit age one. At that point, the Pediatrician referred Brave to a program where Kalee finally realized how behind he was in many parts of the body. From that time until he went to kindergarten, she would soon learn so many different procedures and different types of doctors, specialists, therapists, tests, and diagnoses; many times the hard way. Insurance wouldnt help her, they would just put off paying for a procedure. Helping get Brave the most assistance and diagnosis was only the beginning. Kalee would have some of the same procedures to keep track of her own serious medical issues and her other son, Timbers, diagnosis. Having God lead her each day and provide her with hope, love, and grace truly kept her going. Without the Lord at her side, she may not have seen that God selected her to have two special needs kids. Its a blessing she doesnt deserve and just prays that God shows her each day what she needs to be doing for Him.
We are longing to find something that will truly satisfy our hearts. This longing leads us into many situations and circumstances. In the end, anything we give our hearts to within this world will find its end. There is an eternal light that reveals our need and helps us understand those longings within us. Within this light, we find what will never fade away, always satisfying the human soul. What we desire most is love, but there is only one lasting love for humanity. When the sun is setting and the dark creeps in, whats revealed is only a shadow of who we really are. We are not fully known by others within this fleeting light, and many people find themselves living in the sunsets. We hope the oncoming night and passing light will reveal a bit of our beauty but hide what is perceived unacceptable or, in many cases, too real. Our spots, our imperfections, have driven our entirety into hiding. Its a humanity problem. We hide. Weve always hidden. Weve found solace in the darkness, but our worth is not lost, and our value has not faded away. We are fully known, even in the darkest of nights. The life we live now is vulnerable to darkness, but there is no need to hide for acceptance. We all have our spots, we all have hurt, but what remains hidden from humanity will not find shelter from the light. When someone is close enough to see the struggle within and provides a way out, its our opportunity to take hold of what we need and begin to trust.

To read this book is to take an incredible journey. It is almost unbelievable that one person could live through so much and survive it all, much less go on to heal the emotional damage done to her heart mind and soul. A tissue may be required as His Morning Sun, shares the authors own life story as heart rending as it was. However, the biggest mistake the reader could do is to put the book down where her story ends. The second half of the book is about your own healing. Morning Sun takes the exact same teachings that God used to heal her life and presents them to you the reader for your own healing. She walks the reader through each step of their healing and uses her own life as the example. Morning Sun shows you her heart, then takes you on a journey into the very depths of your own heart.
Many readers are thrilled to immerse themselves in the tales of years gone by, concerning deeds they wished they could have done, but never did. When living in frigid Alaska, we submerged ourselves in almost any adventure that presented itself. The wild Arctic Alaska with its colder temps, thicker and more prevalent ice-fog, considerably larger moose, huge schools of lively salmon and seemingly unending miles of spacious tundra elicits a symphony of crisp adventures, unparalleled in any other state. They were presented to us on a platter. We didnt shy away. We attempted them with a near voracious appetite and claimed our fill. In fact, we went back for more; with gusto.

From the family that brought you The Lifegiving Home and The Lifegiving Table, discover how you can become a parent who gives your child a life worth living for Christ. In today's world, it's easy to become overwhelmed and even paralyzed by the constant flow of parenting advice. We're flooded with so much practical information that we wonder if we're choosing the right way. And we may be missing the one thing God really wants us to give to our children: His life. God doesn't include a divine methodology for parenting in the Bible, but He does provide principles that can enable any faithful parent to bring His life into the life of their home.In The Lifegiving Parent, respected authors and parents Clay and Sally Clarkson explore eight key principles-heartbeats of lifegiving parenting-to shed light on what it means to create a home where your children will experience the living God in your family. Now parents of four grown children-each with their own unique personality and gifts-Sally and Clay have learned (sometimes the hard way!) that the key to shaping a heart begins at home as you foster a deep and thoughtful God-infused relationship with each child. Filled with biblical insight and classic Clarkson stories, The Lifegiving Parent will equip you with the tools and wisdom you need to give your children much more than just a good Christian life. You'll give them the life of Christ. (Don't miss the companion piece, The Lifegiving Parent Experience!)
All of the children who passed through our lives were angels, angels with broken wings. Most of the parents had been charged with abuse, neglect, or child endangerment. They came at any hour, day or night. The phone would ring, the proper car seat would be loaded into the car, and off we would bound to collect another angel. We would gather the precious bundles and set out to repair their broken wings. The angels appeared and stayed for hours, week, or even years. They came empty-handed, stealing pieces of our hearts as they passed through our lives. These are the stories of some of the many angels who have entered our hearts and lives for a brief time. It is my desire to touch your hearts as the angels have touched ours.
It is no secret that growing up in todays world is challenging. From the time children are conceived until they graduate from high school, parents have an average of nineteen years to prepare them to face the world on their own. In this short time span, we must successfully communicate to our children the value of their lives in such way that they pick it up themselves and carry it throughout their lives with great care. Passionate childrens advocate and ministry volunteer Kitty Havener relies on Scripture and on her experience as a mother of four to share inspirational advice intended to help parents embrace their children with the kind of love that will meet their needs, both today and in the future. She carefully considers what todays children are missingwhat prevents them from living fruitfully. Havener also encourages parents to care for their childrens spirits as much as they care for their minds and bodies, establish their childrens self-worth as a valuable asset, and teach their children to live truthfully, choosing their own paths. The Cry of the Children guides parents through the process of learning what our children really need from us and why we should listen to the cries of their hearts and then partner with God to meet their needs.
