Guy D. Stiebel provides an in-depth study of Roman weaponry as used in Judaea from the arrival of the Romans in the area in around 63 BCE until the time of the Bar Kochba Revolt (135/136 CE). The work is split into three parts. The first addresses Roman militaria and provides a study of the types of weapon used, how they were produced, and stored, and examines the sources available for the study of weaponry in the region and period. Part two looks at how the types of weapon marked identity and at how they carried symbolic meanings which developed over time. Finally, the third part of the book examines how the Romans dealt with the aftermath of conflict and reused and reshaped the ruins of the areas they had conquered.

In this book the authors explain the course of proceedings before the Unified Patent Court. They look at the proceedings as they apply to the fundamental features of the EU patent, in particular its scope of protection, as well as procedural enforcement. As there is still no decision-making practice of the Court, the authors use the decision-making practice of the national courts, as a model. This will be a welcome addition to the libraries of patent lawyers across the 25 member states who have adopted Convention on the introduction of the EU patent with unitary effect.

Why do Shakespeare's texts resonate so powerfully for us in the 21st century, 400 years after he wrote and produced them? Why is he more popular today than ever before? Why is that popularity now occurring in a global context, rather than a Western context? Surely, the comprehensiveness of Shakespeare's ethical vision is one of the reasons. His skill as a playwright elicits reader and audience empathy for his characters and the dramatic situations in which he situates them. Yet the political, economic, and social practices, discourses, and events of our present moment, and our inevitable 'situatedness' in them, constitute another, untheorized part of the story. Presentism views Shakespeare's texts as infinitely flexible, elastic entities. It empowers readers, directors, actors, and audience members alike as endlessly capable of opening up new meanings in Shakespeare's texts - meanings that are inflected both temporally, in different periods of time, and spatially, in different cultures around the globe. This new study defines, explains, and analyses the significance of presentism as a 21st century theoretical and critical approach to Shakespeare's texts.
