A brief but engaging look at getting older. In Age, biogerontologist Suresh Rattan delves into the fascinating biology and philosophy of aging. Beginning with an exploration of the chemical origins and fundamental characteristics of life, Rattan then explains how gerontologists interpret human life as a continuum divided into four "ages." Our age flows forward and backward depending on how we feel, how we behave, and how we perceive ourselves. How we approach our age and the age of others often determines our physical, mental, and social health as well as how we treat others. Thanks to evolution, our bodies maintain a homeodynamic space that repairs our bodies until about the age of 45, at which point this space begins to shrink. Through his research, Rattan was inspired to create a formula for eternal life: perfect genes, a healthy environment, and good fortune. Unfortunately, these three ingredients are impossible to achieve, and Rattan urges us to accept our aging bodies and mortality with grace. After all, aging happens to all of us.In Reflections, a series copublished with Denmark's Aarhus University Press, scholars deliver 60-page reflections on key concepts. These books present unique insights on a wide range of topics that entertain and enlighten readers with exciting discoveries and new perspectives.

This book provides an overview of male violence against women and the failure of the legal system. Male violence against women is pervasive. From the bedroom to the boardroom; from the home to the hospital; from the court to the care home, women are subject to male violence. The legal response to this is weak. The violence is either invisible or downplayed. This book explains why and how the law can do better. It explores how violence in different settings reinforces and magnifies the abuse in others. Too often violence against women is considered in silos (sexual assault; domestic abuse; street harassment, etc.). The book argues that they must be seen on a continuum. It brings out the common themes, but also the subtle differences in context between the scenes of violence. In doing so it argues that we cannot understand an incident of male violence against women without understanding the broader context within which that takes place. The book claims that the legal response to male violence against women downplays the severity of the harm or even fails to recognise it. This is a must-read for those interested in criminal law, gender politics, and feminist approaches to law. It is only when the true nature of the problem is grasped that the law can start to provide an effective response to it. This book shows how a better and more effective law can be found.

In Hitler's Great Gamble, James Ellman argues that Barbarossa was a gamble, but that it was not doomed from the start: that it was a reasonable gamble spoiled not by strategic shortsightedness, but by diplomatic setbacks and poor execution.

A comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of prompt engineering with ChatGPT Hands-On Prompt Engineering: Learning to Program ChatGPT Using OpenAI APIs is a practical and essential resource for any professional looking to implement AI in their business. This book teaches you the basics of prompt engineering, which lets you program ChatGPT to perform tasks. It focuses on business applications of AI and walks you through the process of implementing techniques and algorithms using available software tools. You'll also learn the approaches and best practices that have led to success for leaders in this area. Prompt engineering differs from the process of coding traditional queries in a few key ways. With prompt engineering, task descriptions are formulated as questions, so the description of the task is embedded in the input given to the AI. Additionally, some language models can be trained to complete tasks using information contained in the prompts (prompt-based learning). Hands-On Prompt Engineering teaches you to work with these and pretrained models using Python code. Learn what types of AI language model tasks can be productively automated through prompt engineering Use Python to program OpenAI's ChatGPT3 and add business value Discover the best practices and proven techniques in the emerging field of prompt engineering Get hands-on guidance for optimizing the output you receive from ChatGPT and other AI models Hands-On Prompt Engineering is an essential resource for software engineers, MLOps engineers, data scientists, and other business professionals interested in utilizing AI and natural language processing with prompt engineering.

The story of Swan & Maclaren Architects has been unfolding for over 130 years and continues to this day. Since its founding the firm has managed to prosper and grow through the impact of two world wars as well as Singapore's move from a Colony to Independent Nationhood, alongside the resulting shifts in the needs of clients and the city state alike. It is perhaps from the direction of leadership and an approach to design in each era, where a questioning of who, what, and why in a systematic way led the architects to creative value added design solutions. Longevity, as a firm, seems only possible with Swan & Maclaren searching at the core of commission to establish an authentic approach to design solutions within a corporate framework of clients and project needs. Architecture in Process illustrates a range of over 35 recent projects produced under this questioning approach to problem solving in architecture and design over the past ten years. While also introducing us to the work of the firm from the mid-century period that led up to the current design leadership, as the sixth generation to carry the legacy of that very same firm Archibald Alexander Swan & James Waddell Boyd Maclaren started in 1892.

The Colombian architectural firm ESUS (Esguerra, Saenz, Urdaneta y Samper) played a key role in the development of modern architecture in Colombia during the mid-20th century. Notable for their technical innovation, elaborate language and careful execution, ESUS' buildings also carry broader significance in terms of our understanding of how the international ideals of architectural modernism were adapted to local Latin American contexts. Yet until now there has existed no English-language study of their architecture and legacy. Published as part of the Bloomsbury Studies in Modern Architecture series, which brings to light the work of significant yet overlooked modernist architects, this book examines ESUS' work from an array of perspectives including the technological, formal, material, urban, and global, showing in particular how their high-rise concrete buildings contribute to new understandings of the history of concrete architecture. Including previously unpublished archival documents, images, and drawings, this is an important new account in the expanding scholarly history of modernism in Latin America.
