What are quasi-judicial bodies as a formulation in international law? Though these are currently legion at the international level, there is yet to be a rigorous analysis of them as a category. This book fills this gap by setting out a comprehensive and detailed map of this quasi-judicial terrain. Taking a comparative approach, it looks at the form and function of these bodies, as well as commenting on their effectiveness. It goes further to explore their understanding at the domestic and international court level. This is a fascinating study that will be of interest to all scholars of international courts and institutions.

One of the most enigmatic figures of antiquity, Tiberius lacked the imperial splendour of his great predecessor Augustus and the excesses of many of his successors, and has been overlooked by history. Yet this compelling study offers a portrait of a complex and contradictory man, both emperor and exile, tyrant and recluse. Drawing on a wealth of ancient sources as well as contemporary classical scholarship, Dr Iskander Rehman engages in a nuanced and multidisciplinary examination of Tiberius¿ philosophical, intellectual and military influences, and the effectiveness of his foreign policy. Analysing key conflicts, Rehman evaluates the reach and efficacy of Rome¿s grand strategy, applying the lessons of the past to contemporary security challenges and modern global defence policy.

We all want to feel energized, optimistic, and fulfilled each day, thankful for the meaningful people and activities in our lives. Yet many people lack this kind of joy and vitality. Why? One major reason is they have not made peace with their past.Often people carry pain from past troubled relationships into their current relationships. They are weighed down by shame that toxic people once tried to put on them. Or they hold on to mistakes and failures, never able to forgive themselves. Either way, they struggle to find the freedom that God offers.Make Peace with Your Past offers essential principles and practical steps for moving beyond these painful experiences. Dr. Gregory Jantz takes readers from hurt to healing by exploring the power of forgiving others and themselves, accurately seeing themselves as God does, living fully in the moment with him, and allowing "the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" to define their future (Philippians 3:14, ESV).The past may have been disappointing or it may have been disastrous--but when we make peace with those circumstances, our present and future can be better than we ever imagined.Dr. Gregory L. Jantz is the author of over forty-five books, the host of the national Hope & Possibility podcast, a regular contributor to Psychology Today, and a popular keynote speaker. He is a leader in holistic treatment. Under Dr. Jantz's leadership, "The Center: A Place of HOPE" is among the top ten facilities in the United States for the treatment of depression.
This book articulates and defends a sceptical general account of parliamentary sovereignty. It challenges the orthodox approach to this fundamental doctrine by making three key heretical claims. First, there are some laws that Parliament cannot make. Second, there are several ways in which primary legislation can be overridden or set aside by institutions other than Parliament. And third, Parliament has the power to bind itself as to the substance of future legislation. All three positions are developed using arguments which depend on existing legal materials and are compatible with the normative underpinnings of the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. The book combines theoretical and doctrinal analysis. The theoretical part of the book situates Parliament's authority to legislate in the broader context of an examination of constitutional and political authority. It develops a conception of the ways in which competing views on the scope of Parliament's legislative authority are mediated into law. The doctrinal part of the book reconsiders Parliament's legal position. It proposes a novel conception of Parliament's power to bind itself, rooted in the idea of commitments. It defends the existence of a judicial power to impose narrowly conceived freestanding limits on Parliament's law-making authority, rooted in the rule of law. Finally, the book examines the challenges posed to parliamentary sovereignty by both its internal procedures and the devolved legislatures.

Here, Oscar Garcia Augustin and Paolo Cossarini analyse the recent history of the Spanish body-politic, with special reference to the populism and polarization that have taken over politics in the country since the enormous turbulence of the 2008 global financial crisis. The financial and economic crisis gave birth first to anti-austerity movements and a subsequent left-wing populist party, and then to a series of socio-political ruptures that have reconfigured politics permanently in Europe's fifth largest economy. Topics covered include an assessment of the Catalan march towards independence, the reconfiguration of Spain's party system, the rise of far-right groups, increased feminist and equality activism, municipalism, and a growing environmentalist movement. The authors, both experts on populism as well as Spain's political system, reflect on these aspects of the current Spanish situation in order to provide a comprehensive socio-political overview of 21st century Spain.
