• - Proceedings of the 2015 TranSopot Conference

    1 970

This volume explores the field of transport sector development. Derived from the 2015 TranSopot conference held in Sopot, Poland, it discusses current trends, issues, and research on the topic. Specifically, it aims to explore sustainable development, examines current problems ranging from transport systems to transport enterprises and provides a variety of analytical methods such as economic and econometric analysis. The three most important fields of current transport research are sustainable transport development, innovation and technological progress and the conditions of transport enterprise growth and survival. Transport is an activity which is supposed to be sustainable, environmentally aware, economically optimal, socially sound and politically responsible. Striving for innovation in transport means looking for organizational and technical solutions which increase the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of transportation. However, the main research issue in the field are strategies for sustainable transport developments in urban and rural areas, instruments of internalization of external transport costs, promotion of environmentally-friendly transport behavior and improvement of transport energy efficiency. Transport infrastructure innovation, intelligent transport systems, innovations in management and finance are some of the main concerns of researchers and policy-makers in the field. Transport enterprises need to adapt to the conditions of the new economic growth perspectives. They need to create unique growth conditions, otherwise they will condemn themselves to struggle for survival. In particular, transport enterprises have to create special functioning systems and programs to diversify economic activity to use funds in the most efficient ways possible.

The photos in this edition are black and white.

There was a time when AMC performance was more of an afterthought to the muscle car era. Sure, the Javelins and AMX cars were cool, as were the really limited cars such as the Scrambler and the Rebel Machine, but with production numbers a distant fourth place in the American manufacturer muscle car scene, well, you could be forgiven for not remembering much about them through the years. Fast forward to today, and AMC muscle cars are among the fastest appreciating performance vehicles in the market. Low production numbers combined with capable performance as well as cool and unique styling have increased coverage in magazines and at auctions, making these cars more valuable than ever before. Concours-restored AMC muscle cars routinely bring $30,000 to $65,000 in the collector car world, making a comprehensive restoration guide a must-have for any American Motors enthusiast.
AMC Javelin, AMX and Muscle Car Restoration 1968-1974 provides in-depth coverage of the decoding and documentation process of an AMC muscle car, primarily the popular Javelin and AMX models. Author and expert AMC restorer Scott Campbell gives you a detailed account of important aspects of restoration including rust repair; panel and sheet-metal replacement; interior and trim restoration; undercarriage chassis, suspension, and driveline rehabilitation; as well as every other major component group. Also included are multiple "how-to" sequences that, regardless of your skill level, will assist you in restoring your AMC muscle car.
This restoration guide chronicles the entire process of AMC ownership from selecting a vehicle to disassembly to final re-assembly. You will find coverage of all steps throughout: from turning the first bolt to tumbling the key in the ignition following completion of your restoration. If you own an AMC muscle car, especially a Javelin or an AMX, this restoration guide will be your go-to source for restoring glory to your unique AMC muscle car.

This book comes about due to the love of a motor car for being itself and to tell of a change for a car that has stood for over forty years. In June 2009, the Aston Martin DB MK III Registration Number WYE 847 was first sighted in a locked-up garage in Weybridge, Surrey, UK, awaiting restoration completion that had started some forty-three years earlier and not quite finished due to occupation changes, residence moves, and the passing of time. In July 2009, the DB MK III [WYE 847] recommissioning was started by Aston Works Service in Newport Pagnell, and this book records in part its restoration work details. -Engine cylinder head repairs -Suspension and brakes repairs -Body refurbish, lighting system repair and upgrade -Interior attention Restoration work was attended to and all the while the car was used at every opportunity. The DB MK III Registration Number WYE 847 was garaged for more than forty years, then recommissioned and used on roads never seen before and driven to places never before visited. • - Why Cities Need to Kick the Habit and How
    av Chad Frederick
    917

A provocative look at our nation's dependency on the automobile and how its potential impact on urban design will either make or break our health, economy, and quality of life.In this thought-provoking work, author and urban planning expert Chad Frederick scrutinizes the use of automobiles in cities, investigating its role in exacerbating urban inequalities and thwarting sustainability of modern society. Through a comprehensive, thoughtful discussion, Frederick illustrates how the automobile is fundamentally at odds with the very nature of cities. He shows how cars impose huge burdens on our health, equity, environment, local and national economy, and quality of life. Most of all, he shows how automobile dependency has put our entire society at risk. The book delves into the monumental role of automobiles in the development of cities after the Great Depression, impacting the American identity and affecting the way we produce and manage urban spaces. Frederick provides compelling evidence that cities with more diverse modes of transportation are greener, healthier, more prosperous, and even more enjoyable places to live than automobile-dependent cities. He identifies one institution responsible for our inability to improve our cities: the social sciences, and examines the root cause of our inability to make progress toward more multi-modal cities. In conclusion, the author offers a radical solution for moving beyond the underlying logic that forces us to create automobile-dependent cities.
