As the sport of drag racing exploded in the 1950s, two youngsters from North Carolina each rose through the ranks racing Chevrolets. It didn't take long for one of them to realize that if you couldn't beat him it may be best to join him. Buddy Martin approached Ronnie Sox about campaigning a 1963 Z-11 Chevy; and with that partnership, the most dominant duo in the history of drag racing was formed.Sox & Martin: The Most Famous Team in Drag Racing is a comprehensive archival recap of straight-line racing's greatest duo. Historic and modern imagery recapture the celebrated Plymouth race cars campaigned by Ronnie and Buddy throughout their legendary partnership. Also chronicled are the lesser-known Oldsmobile, Ford, Pontiac, Chevrolet, and Mercury mounts predating their time with Chrysler. The races, the cars, the events; all of it is covered here during this golden age of drag racing.Author Jim Schild, with the help of Buddy Martin, Herb McCandless, Jake King, Diane Sox, Dave Christie, and others, has created the most exhaustive, authentic review of the illustrious drag racing career of Sox & Martin. The U.S. maritime industry hit rock bottom starting in the early 1980's, right around the time the author was graduating from the California Maritime Academy. Even in his yearbook it warned about how bad things were--it was a time of cost cutting, reduced wages, desperate shipping companies and a lack of jobs. Eventually he made his way out to sea as both an able-bodied seaman and a third mate. He saw first-hand what it was like out there; from the crazy captains to the weary sailors, and from the bad food to the dangerous working conditions. This book covers it all, and while the ships he sailed on were all scrapped long ago, the stories of the industry and what it took to make it, are remembered. This is his story.

Living at the crest of Cranberry Grade, young Dan is fascinated with the trains and especially with the locomotives that pull them. The men gather and watch the passing parade of man and machine doing battle against the mountain. The sound, the exhaust, the steam that envelops the locomotives-all call to the young boy. But it's the guys who run these giant fire-breathing beasts that really capture Dan's imagination. These engineers are called "hoggers," and Dan is determined that one day he, too, will claim this coveted title.

Wer sein Auto liebt, der schiebt!"... NEIN!
So entstehen keine Standplatten.
Revised and updated to a larger format than the original, this Floyd Clymer publication includes complete technical data, service and maintenance information and comprehensive detailed instructions for the repair and overhaul of all major and minor mechanical and electrical components for the 1966 through 1976 BMW 2000 & 2002 Series of automobiles.
This is Jacks second book and turns from Verse to Prose for an autobiographical work. Memoirs of a Signalman covers his years as a Signalman with British Railways on the Fylde Coast of England between 1978-88. It is not just a cold technical book about Railway Signalling, but also includes some very funny tales of very unusual events and incidents. But despite the fact that his home town of 60 years once had the largest deep-sea fishing fleet on the West Coast, there are no Big Fish Stories. It is all true and really happened. It actually covers Jacks life from leaving School during 1974, right up until recently, when the very last Signal Box [Poulton No 3], was demolished, to make way for the Electrification of the Blackpool line. However Jack was involved in the original calls for this overdue modernisation, and he knew it was important for the Routes long-term future. Besides some basic background on traditional Railway Signalling, and life on the Railway, it covers the decline of Fleetwood and its once great Maritime and Railway heritage. It is hoped that an Audio version of the book will also be produced later this year.

To Caress the Air continues to track the progress of Augustus Herring as he prepares to fly his revolutionary powered aeroplane. Gus, still optimistic after a series of nagging technical setbacks, believes that the upcoming trials will be the "next great step" in unraveling the problems of manned, heavier-than-air flight. A series of tragic events pushed Herring to the brink of financial ruin. Moving his family back East, Gus helps to establish the Aero Club of America, where he met Glenn H. Curtiss. The men agree to combine their talents and form the Herring-Curtiss Company, to capitalize on the fledgling U.S. aeroplane market. A combination of greed and ego on Curtiss's part soon drives the business into bankruptcy. Freed from the partnership with Herring, Curtiss and his new companies make millions from the sale of aeroplanes to foreign countries during WWI - machines that incorporated many of Herring's innovations. At war's end, Gus files suit in the New York State Supreme Court, where he petitions for fair compensation on behalf of the investors in the Herring-Curtiss Company. As the trial continues, witnesses for the plaintiff offer in-depth accounts of the Curtiss swindle, present sordid tales regarding the Wright brothers, and describe events involving aviation's master manipulator… Octave Chanute. Herring's wealthy benefactor, Matthias Arnot, and Professor Langley's principal engineer, Charles Manley, add vigor to an already impressive collection of aeronautical personalities who appear throughout Book 2. Acrimony in the courtroom takes a violent turn as hostility builds between the litigants and their respective lawyers; the stress ravages Herring's health and puts the legal proceedings at risk. Will a mistrial be declared? How will the judge rule? An extraordinary, genuine quirk of fate leads to the final resolution of the case. Herring's story stirs controversy and breathes new life into the debate about "Who really invented the aeroplane?"
