Von den etwa 30.000 Junkers-Flugzeugen, die ab 1915 in der dreißigjährigen Geschichte des Junkers Produktionsverbundes entstanden sind, waren mehr als 24.000 Flugzeuge Bomber und Aufklärer vom Typ Junkers Ju86, Ju87, Ju88, sowie deren Weiterentwicklungen. Nur fünf Flugzeuge überstanden die Nachkriegszeit in England und in den USA. Auf Grund der geringen Anzahl noch vorhandener Originalflugzeuge begann man in den 80er Jahren mit der Bergung von Flugzeugen, die während des Kriegs meist an abgeschiedenen Orten zurückgelassen wurden. Inzwischen umfasst die weltweite Museumsflotte von Junkers-Flugzeugen aus der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs wieder 18 Museumsflugzeuge, die durch acht zum Teil flugfähige Nachbauten ergänzt werden.Neben drei weiteren Flugzeugen, die sich noch an ihren Absturzstellen in Skandinavien befinden, sind inzwischen auch 12 recht gut erhaltene Unterwasserwracks bekannt. Insgesamt existieren damit heute 41 Objekte, die die Epoche der "späten" Junkersentwicklungen repräsentieren. Sie werden im Rahmen des dritten Bands der Reihe "Letzte Junkers-Flugzeuge" vorgestellt.
