The owner of Swedish gallery modernafricanart, Lande Anjous-Zygmunt was looking for a way to bring the African artists Bruce Onobrakpeya, Muraina Oyelami, Nike Davies Okundaye, Ehi Obinyan, Sam Ovraiti and Tola Wewe to a new audience. What she found was a way to deconstruct the categories of art and design and to celebrate traditional art in a most contemporary form; the art rug. This is a collection that fits neatly into the artistic heritages of three continents, African, Asian and European, even while it transcends definition. With 64 pages and over 30 full-colour photographs and illustrations, Africa on the Floor -The Exhibition Catalogue not only presents and documents modernafricanart's collection of art rugs but also deconstructs the wall between art and design.
Gardening is one of Marilyn's favorite hobbies. She is continually looking for new plants that will "fit" into her gardens. Plant colors are important, but she looks for names of plants appropriate to the garden where they will be planted. For instance, Everlasting Love hosta is a winner for the Sweetheart Garden, while Bachelor Buttons are found in the Little Boys Garden.Marilyn's goal for this book is to inspire all gardeners to find their stories in their gardens, and also to encourage them to smile, while pulling one more weed! She believes God gave us a beautiful world to live in, and we can do our part, by taking care of our own little corners of this world. Working and resting in His beauty, is one way of saying thank you, for all He has given us.As a songwriter and gardener, Marilyn is available so speak and/or sing at garden club and church meetings and other events. Everyone is capable of being an incredible gardener and every piece of land is capable of becoming an incredible garden. High elevation gardeners may experience cold, dry, and windy weather, along with invading wildlife, and less than ideal soil. But with this book you will learn the tricks and techniques to overcome any challenge and create an oasis of edible plants, even in the harshest of environments. In part one of this book, we explore what makes your garden plot unique, and from there determine what vegetables will grow best. If you don't understand the specifics of your garden, you will likely find yourself blindsided by challenges that could easily be fixed or avoided. In part two of the book, we look at solutions to some of the biggest challenges that high altitude gardeners face, including a cold, short growing season, arid climate, strong winds, hungry wildlife, weeds, minimal wild pollinators, and poor soil, as well as pests and diseases.Part three is a reference section with the distinct growing parameters of the most common garden vegetables, as well as their suitability for being grown at high altitudes. This section can and should be regularly referred to over the years as you perfect growing food in your unique garden.Gardening is a truly beautiful endeavor that should not needlessly be limited by altitude. Whether you're gardening at 5,000 feet or 11,000 feet, use this book to create your own abundant and healthy garden.

Randall Collins had spent all his life applying practical skills to achieve results. As an accountant, he was used to organization, analysis, and responsibility. After he retired, he found himself with a gap in his life; he wanted to be productive, but he'd had enough of being answerable to a boss or a client - he wanted to work on his own terms. Like many people, he turned to gardening and found it to be a compelling, fascinating world. For him, it was a perfect solution - the meticulous, observation-focused mindset he'd developed as an accountant translated beautifully to the process and science of gardening, while the art and creativity required to nurture and grow ornamental plants allowed him to explore a new side of himself. But at the heart of this memoir is Collins' greatest challenge: how to outsmart a foraging white-tailed deer who saw the garden as his personal gourmet salad bar. A warm, relatable story of how one man came to terms with retirement and nature, Stop...and Smell the Mints is both delightful and educational.

Each page in this beautiful book includes loads of helpful information for the beginner as well as the advanced gardener. Full color pictures of the plants give you the true-life colors to make coloring and identification easier. The coloring page is separate from the information page with nothing printed on the back - so you can color without worrying about leaking through to another image. You can even cut out your coloring pages...and you'll still be left with a useful book for planting your garden. The quality paper means you are free to use media of your choice - crayons, gel pens, colored pencils, oil pastels, etc.Enjoy learning and coloring! Coloring utilizes both hemispheres of the brain, right and left. Excellent yields, short maturity and other advantages"It is claimed for the system described in this book that by its aid no back-yard is too small, no soil too poor, to grow vegetables in such quantity and of such quality as will materially lessen a family's food bill", wrote in 1921 the author in his introduction.Indeed, after nine years' persistent experiments in the use of electricity and quick-growing methods, A. Carr Bennett developed a method which proved successful "in the stimulating of fertile vegetable seed."It also increases the speed of germination and the number of plants that reach maturity, and accelerates maturation too: for example, white turnips reached maturity in just thirty-five days instead of the usual sixty, which allowed for a new crop to be planted. The Bennett method is one of a number of "electroculture" techniques which almost disappeared after WW2, when agrochemicals started to replace everything and brought with them all the dramatic side effects we know today. It works on all different sorts of plant: "In 1918, electrified seed of this description gave on an average over 30 per cent increased yield in bushels per acre; the grain produced was of a better quality, and the straw longer and stouter. This is the "larger sphere" which the writer is now contemplating. Imagine how much such an increase in wheat-yield would mean to New South Wales!"If we replace "New South Wales" with "Mankind" then everybody will understand how important this book is.Almost a century later, we are pleased to once again be able present this information to everybody, including farmers, gardeners, agronomists and anyone concerned about food, health and environment.
The book has been prepared keeping in view the course requirements of seed science and technology for undergraduate students at various institutions. The large volumes of materials are available for this subject. An attempt has been made to consolidate the scattered information and presented in a simple format. This publication describes the procedures involved in the production of quality seeds of 40 horticultural crops. The techniques involved in the certified and foundation stages of seed production from seed selection to storage including the quality standards and appropriate storage methods are explained in detail in this publication. From this the readers will get knowledge about seed production of horticultural crops. It is hoped that the publication will be useful for vegetable seed growers, research workers, teachers, students, planners, NGOs and extension personnel. We hope that this book "Scientific Seed Production of Horticultural Crops" will be helpful to our readers of this subject.
