Indian Nature Myths is a classic collection of Native American nature stories by Julia Darrow Cowles. The stories of this book have been chosen for the purpose of showing how the early Red Men accounted for the phenomena of nature-the presence of the birds, the moaning of the wind, the whispering of the leaves. The nature myths of the North American Indian are full of poetry, and occasionally of a rich humor. In retelling the stories for children the author has sought to retain the original spirit of the tales, and through them to give to the reader a better understanding of the inner life and thought of the primitive Red Man at his best. The tales have been gathered from many sources, and are representative of many tribes. It is well known that the same tale in varying form is told among many different tribes, just as the folk tales have been carried in early times from one nation to another and are variously accredited. It is not always possible to determine the original source.

High mountain habitats are globally important for biodiversity. At least 12% of birds worldwide breed at or above the treeline, many of which are endemic species or species of conservation concern. However, due to the challenges of studying mountain birds in difficult-to-access habitats, little is known about their status and trends. This book provides the first global review of the ecology, evolution, life history and conservation of high mountain birds, including comprehensive coverage of their key habitats across global mountain regions, assessments of diversity patterns along elevation gradients, and adaptations for life in the alpine zone. The main threats to mountain bird populations are also identified, including climate change, human land use and recreational activities. Written for ecologists and naturalists, this book identifies key knowledge gaps and clearly establishes the research priorities needed to increase our understanding of the ecology of mountain birds and to aid in their conservation.

This story was inspired by spending quality time with my grandchildren. It was written in a way to explore the sounds that animals make through the eyes of a little boy. I feel it is important that children understand that people and animals are very complex. In fact, they are so complex that it is impossible that they could have been created only by chance. Only God the Creator could have thought of every intricate detail that makes us who we are. This story is a good way to open the discussion with your child about how God created everything differently. Now every creature is unique in its own special way. I hope you have fun reading this with your children.

"A richly illustrated introduction to the spectacular reptiles that swam the oceans when dinosaurs roamed the landDuring the Mesozoic Era, 252 to 66 million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the land, but the ocean deeps were roiling with equally spectacular reptiles-including giant predators. This richly illustrated, authoritative, and accessible book introduces readers to the world of these fascinating marine animals, whose predecessors returned to the seas a few million years after the first vertebrates emerged from the water. As we meet ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, and many others, we learn about the astonishing anatomical, physiological, and behavioral adaptations that enabled these reptiles to become ocean dwellers again. We also learn about their living descendants, including sea turtles and sea snakes. Featuring stunning artwork depicting these prehistoric ocean creatures and photographs of their fossil remains, this book invites readers to discover the enthralling past of marine reptiles in all their extraordinary diversity"--

"The 2005 Luc Jacquet documentary March of the Penguins won an Oscar for its depiction of emperor penguins' fifty-kilometer trek over sea ice to their breeding grounds. While such a trek may be common for emperors breeding in colonies around the Antarctic perimeter, it is not the case for the largest colonies in the Ross Sea. To understand emperor penguins here, we must follow them on four critical journeys, each with its own challenges and hazards. In this compelling and accessible book, comparative biologist Jerry Kooyman and writer and fellow Antarctic explorer Jim Mastro offer a detailed explanation of all four journeys. The first person to live in isolation for months to study these remarkable, deep-diving birds, Kooyman presents new stories and scientific descriptions with never-before-seen photographs and videos from the very edge. Kooyman has spent over two decades voyaging to the Antarctic and studying these penguins, and he is known among his fellow researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography as "the penguin guy." With this book, readers will have a chance to explore alongside Kooyman and Mastro-and understand in new ways the lives of these remarkable and supremely adapted birds"--

Welcome to " Analysing Your Dog's Personality: A Roadmap to a Deeper Bond"The purpose of this book is not to provide a handbook for training dogs but rather to serve as a guide to understanding your dog's personality for better bonding and care. While training is an important aspect of caring for your dog, it is not the focus of this book. This includes providing them with the right type and amount of exercise, choosing activities that align with their interests and preferences, and creating a comfortable and secure home environment.Of course, training is still an important aspect of caring for your dog, and we have touched upon it throughout the book. By understanding your dog's personality, you can tailor your approach to training and address any behavior problems that arise.Ultimately, the goal of this book is to help you build a stronger and more fulfilling relationship with your furry companion by understanding their unique personality traits and needs. So, take the time to get to know your dog on a deeper level and enjoy the rewards of a strong and loving bond.

A holiday Grinch is out to steal Christmas from the animals. The Furry Friends Foster Families December Donation Drive is in full swing when Kat Harper and her friend Imogene Little receive a devastating blow. A Christmas quilt set to bring in a lot of money for the rescue animals of Cherry Hills, Washington, has been stolen. It isn't long before several seasonal suspects emerge, each with more motive than the last. And as much as Kat doesn't want to believe one of 4F's foster parents might be responsible for betraying the nonprofit organization, it's a possibility she can't ignore. The only trouble is, nobody knows exactly how the quilt ended up in the burglar's hands. With no sign of forced entry, is this a true locked-room mystery or a much more straightforward "whodunit"? Kat's not sure, but when 4F is targeted a second time, the amateur sleuth realizes she needs to wrap up this investigation quickly if she doesn't want the guilty party to strike again. All of the Cozy Cat Caper Mystery books can be enjoyed as standalones but will be better appreciated as part of the series. The books are light, fun cozy mysteries featuring an animal-loving female amateur sleuth, lovable and not-so-lovable quirky characters, and a page-turning mystery that needs solving. None of the books include cliffhangers, bad language, or graphic scenes.

Phocid (or earless or true) seals are ecologically diverse, occupying habitats from the tropics to the poles in marine and freshwater and feeding on anything from tiny zooplankton to other marine mammals. There are 18 species of phocid seals, the smallest species (ringed seal) is more than 20 times smaller than the largest (southern elephant seal), with marked sexual dimorphism present in some species. This book examines the behavior, ecology, and physiology that allow phocid seals to inhabit such a wide range of habitats. The book is composed of 16 chapters written by 37 authors from 8 countries. The book first describes the general patterns of phocid behavior, followed by descriptions of what is known about well-studied species. We have taken a holistic approach, focusing not only on the behaviors themselves but also on the factors that constrain the expression of behavior and the proximate mechanisms driving behavior. In many cases, the chapters represent collaborations between well-established researchers and early-mid career individuals who bring new perspectives to help carry the field of phocid behavioral ecology well into the future.
