Hedgehoghaven Village, England. A story of a Yank and his dog that inherit the whole of Longhall County along with the Village and railroad contained within. My name is Tesse a beautiful white 15 year old Shih-Tzu dog and I am your story teller. Yes you read that right, this story will be told from a dog's point of view. So you know it will be the whole truth and nothing but the truth. After all have you ever had a dog lie to you? Ole is my human and our adventures in Longhall County are to say the least rather unusual. The county and the village are filled with eccentric people who still believe the old ways are the best ways. People and things from the past are normal occurrences and taken in stride by the villagers. They believe in steam engines for their trains and gas for their cars. Ghosts, spirits and famous people or beings from the past are welcomed, treasured, embraced and never forgotten. The Longhall County and Hedgehoghaven Village share in the moto. 'Where Legends Live and Reality Dies.' Hells Lefse lives in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. He is fond of the area and currently lives in the same house he grew up overlooking the Mississippi River. He is an avid collector, buyer and seller of the odd and un-usual. When not working he enjoys spending his time reading, writing and riding his motorcycles. Hells has one child living at home, Julio his beloved Shih-Tzu. They love to watch movies together, play in the yard and the river and gnaw on rawhide bones. His three human children and nine grandchildren are always welcome home as long as they bring their dogs.

"The story of one woman's remarkable work with a trio of charismatic, endangered bird species-and her discoveries about the devastating threats that imperil them. In Feather Trails, wildlife biologist and birder Sophie A. H. Osborn reveals how the harmful environmental choices we've made-including pesticide use, the introduction of invasive species, lead poisoning, and habitat destruction-have decimated Peregrine Falcons, Hawaiian Crows, and California Condors. In the Rocky Mountains, the cloud forests of Hawai'i, and the Grand Canyon, Sophie and her colleagues work day-to-day to try to reintroduce these birds to the wild, even when it seems that the odds are steeply stacked against their survival. With humor and suspense, Feather Trails introduces us to the fascinating behaviors and unique personalities of Sophie's avian charges and shows that what endangers them ultimately threatens all life on our planet. More than a deeply researched environmental investigation, Feather Trails is also a personal journey and human story, in which Sophie overcomes her own obstacles-among them heat exhaustion, poachers, rattlesnakes, and chauvinism. Ultimately, Feather Trails is an inspiring, poignant narrative about endangered birds and how our choices can help to ensure a future not only for the rarest species, but for us too"--

Now available in paperback, this compelling book is full of behavioural insights and wolf tales that will engage those interested in the state of wild wolves throughout North America. In the winter of 2008¿09, a new wolf family from the Pipestone Valley suddenly appeared in the Bow Valley of Banff National Park, taking up residence alongside a family that had ruled there for over a decade. Within a year, these new wolves had eliminated the Bow Valley wolves and established a dominance that would last for five years in the heart of Canadäs most famous national park. The book chronicles not only the rise of the Pipestones and how they established and maintained dominance in the valley, but also how an increase in mass tourism in Banff led to a decrease in prey density for the Pipestones, which in turn led to the wolves changing their hunting strategies and expanding their summer range. Bloch explains how the Pipestones faced an inevitable fall from the top as pressure from eager wolf watchers increased exponentially in the park at the same time the wolves¿ prey base was shrinking rapidly. Combining these influences with other factors like rail mortality and old age, Bloch and Marriott knew the end was near for the Pipestones. The authors conclude with insights into how wolf and wildlife management in Banff National Park can improve. They outline steps Parks Canada should be taking to deal with the human management problems that are really at the core of the wildlife issues in the park. They also discuss whether we can continue to maintain a balance between ecological integrity and mass tourism in Canadäs flagship park and whether it is already too late. Have we passed the point of no return? And will our Banff wolves live forever after in a wildlife ghetto devoid of true wilderness characteristics?

«Antonis Balasopoulos is to be heartily thanked for bringing back into print A. L. Morton¿s marvelous book The English Utopia ¿ and for providing us with not only a useful and insightful Introduction, but also a comprehensive bibliography of Leslie Morton¿s many writings. We definitely need such works in these difficult times when democracy is under siege by authoritarian forces. Morton¿s chapters may well truly serve both to empower our critical thinking and to inspire our radical-democratic imaginations.»(Harvey J Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy & Justice, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay)«Antonis Balasopoulos describes his job as an ¿exercise in historical reclamation.¿ He is due much gratitude for both the scrupulousness and the expertise he brings to his task. The Introduction is a model of its kind, positioning Morton in his own milieu as a committed intellectual. Morton¿s book more than deserves this careful attention. In this new Ralahine edition, The English Utopia appears as the seminal text in utopian studies it should have been. »(Patricia McManus, Senior Lecturer, School of Humanities and Social Science, University of Brighton)A. L. Morton¿s classic 1952 study of utopias in the context of British social history constitutes one of the earliest sustained engagements with the social and ideological sources of the utopian imagination, the importance of the class struggle for literary production and of literary production for cultural, if not political hegemony. Traversing English literary history from the medieval poem on the Land of Cockaygne to Sir Thomas More, to William Morris¿s News from Nowhere and the subsequent decline of the genre and the eventual rise of anti-utopian and dystopian strains in the early twentieth century, The English Utopia remains provocative and critically engaging more than seventy years after its original publication. In addition to charting its significance as an intervention, the present edition also brings to light Morton¿s complex role as Left political activist, historian, scholarly catalyst and cultural critic ¿ a paradigmatic instance of the engaged and public intellectual.
