Beginning with a gripping account of one of the most decisive naval battles in history-the 1905 battle of Tsushima between the Japanese and Russians-and ending with the sophisticated missile engagements of the Falklands and in the Persian Gulf, naval historian Ronald Spector explores every facet of the past one hundred years of naval warfare. Drawing from more than one hundred diaries, memoirs, letters, and interviews, this is, above all, a masterful narrative of the human side of combat at sea-real stories told from the point of view of the sailors who experienced it. Exhaustively researched and fascinating in detail, At War at Sea is a monumental history of the men, the ships, and the battles fought on the high seas. "Superb . . . Spector's account provides evocative and fresh perspectives on cultures, technologies and innovations that influenced sailors' lives and shaped naval warfare." (The San Diego Union-Tribune) "Monumental . . . Many books have recorded the history of the United States Navy, but few have meshed that history with that of all other major navies-an unusual comparative technique that brings into often startling relief the virtues and flaws of our own navy." (The Washington Post)"
S.O.A. Books is proud to present this new reprinted edition of the classic early WWII text Sniping, Scouting and Patrolling. This reprint has been created from a scarce original from S.O.A. This reprint maintains the original's integrity, including its page count, photographs, line drawings, and diagrams, ensuring readers gain both the knowledge and the feel of these specialised tactics, techniques and procedures from the era.Communicating basics which are still as relevant to today's soldier as they were to the soldier of the Second World War, Sniping, Scouting and Patrolling goes way beyond mere marksmanship, delving into the psychology and strategy of sniping, scouting, and recce patrolling. It offers a comprehensive look at how to utilise the terrain, how to remain invisible to the enemy while gathering crucial intelligence, and the importance of making every shot count. This manual is a testament to the sniper's role in disrupting the enemy's momentum and routines, emphasising the sniper's duty to remain always on the offensive and the impact of precision and stealth on the outcome of engagements.S.O.A. The Diary of Miriam Green, wife of William Green, Chief Engineer at Gibraltar, and later Chief Engineer of Great Britain, is a primary source of information on life at Gibraltar during the great siege. There are reports on the privations faced by the inhabitants, the continuing social life (such as it was), hints at difficulties and discontents with General Eliott, the Governor and Commander. There is information on two different outbreaks of smallpox, in the second of which hundreds of children died, with the Governor refusing to allow inoculations against the infection. There are accounts of duels between young officers "to settle an Idle business, merely the Effect of their being Young Men". The most curious event recorded is the case of Colonel Ross, who grossly insulted General Boyd, the Lieutenant Governor and Colonel of the 39th Regiment, in front of the Regiment and while it was being reviewed. Ross was Lieut.-Colonel of the same regiment.
This book considers a relatively unknown series of actions of the victorious Hundred Days of 1918: the operations at the River Selle.

Since the late 1970s, anglophone and German military literature has been fascinated by the Wehrmacht's command system, especially the practice of Auftragstaktik. There have been many descriptions of the doctrine, and examinations of its historical origins, as well as unflattering comparisons with the approaches of the British and American armies prior to their adoption of Mission Command in the late 1980s. Almost none of these, however, have sought to understand the different approaches to command in the context of a fundamental characteristic of warfare - friction. This would be like trying to understand flight, without any reference to aerodynamics. Inherently flawed, yet this is the norm in the military literature. This book seeks to address that gap. First, the nature of friction, and the potential command responses to it, are considered. This allows the development of a typology of eight command approaches; each approach then being tested to identify its relative effectiveness and requirements for success. Second, the British and German armies' doctrines of command during the period are examined, in order to reveal similarities and differences in relation to their perspective on the nature of warfare and the most appropriate responses. The experience of Erwin Rommel, both as a young subaltern fighting the Italians in 1917, and then as a newly-appointed divisional commander against the French in 1940, is used to test the expression of the German doctrine in practice. Third, the interaction of these different command doctrines is explored in case studies of two key armored battles, Amiens in August 1918 and Arras in May 1940, allowing the strengths and weaknesses of each to be highlighted and the typology to be tested. The result is intended to offer a new and deeper understanding of both the nature of command as a response to friction, and the factors that need to be in place in order to allow a given command approach to achieve success. The book therefore in two ways represents a sequel to the author's earlier work, Command or Control? Command, Training and Tactics in the British and German Armies, 1888-1918 (London: Cass, 1995), in that it both takes the conceptual model of command developed there to a deeper level, and also takes the story from the climax of 1918 up to the end of the first phase of the Second World War.
The Civil War from A to Z is written from Two Points of View so that one can begin to understand how the United States was torn apart by war not so very long ago. For example, "A, Antebellum" is first told from the North's perspective and then from the South's. This book is written for young people studying the Civil War in grades 4-8.
The Drug To Control examines the history of the global drug war, and how that once legal industry initially driven by colonialism and the exploitation of third-world nations became an underground black market, in which the very authorities who were vowing to stamp out the drug scourge simultaneously funded, armed, and provided transportation and protection to those very drug lords. The Drug To Control is the third part in a series entitled Deconstructing America which attempts to explain, in a relatively easy-to-understand way, how the ultra-rich use their vast power and resources to manipulate the general population into supporting their beliefs and interests. The series will look at different aspects of how power is used to control people, all within the framework of the founding and development of the United States of America to illustrate its arguments and support its conclusions.

From the palm-fringed beaches of a small island colony to the daily slaughter of a helicopter war on the far side of the world, to the brightly lit conference rooms of one of the world's most admired corporations, to the surprising power of a Chopin recital, the author seeks out hidden connections between key events in his life, taking the reader on a tour of some remarkable sights along his journey through the human psyche: Physical abuse at primary school set against a harmonious multicultural upbringing; career opportunities in the US Army offset by the shock of racism such as the casual celebration by white colleagues of Martin Luther King's murder; the tragic loss of friends and equally painful personal loss of love as casualties of a war in Vietnam that seemed to reveal the limits of superpower. Will he find success and happiness in the troubled American society he struggles to understand, or does he understand it too well to ever feel at home here?

Researchers analyzed alternative price and credit policies for depot-level reparable parts and consumables to identify options that would provide units with greater predictability in budget execution, simplify turn-in transactions to reduce reliance on credits, help the supply chain operate more efficiently, and free up the time that commanders, leaders, and soldiers currently spend on managing credits and changing prices throughout the year.
The U.S. Army made some serious mistakes during the almost forgotten, but historically significant, Korean War. One of them was assigning combat officers untrained for prison administration as commanders of the United Nations prisoner of war camps. The communist POWs took full advantage of that and made life miserable for them, their guards, and fellow prisoners who were not committed to their ideology. Riots in the prison camps became deadly on an almost daily basis and kangaroo courts cost many POWS their lives via brutal murders-at the hands of their supposed comrades. That was fine with the POWs as long as they kept chaos alive. They brought life to the saying the inmates are running the asylum, which they did until the fourteenth U.S. camp commander finally took back control of the camps in May 1952. The two-and-a-half-year standoff between commanders and communists marked a new era in prisoner of war history which set a precedent for future wars involving westerners versus easterners. This book tells that story in an educational, entertaining, and riveting fashion.
The main focus is the addiction, blinding acceptance, towards Terrorism in the White Community. The Northwest side of Detroit was home to the KKK in 19188. The variations of their convictions started at Detroit Northwest, and grew like a plague from there. More than 90% of White, on the northwestern side, are unaware of rituals of his hate, they live in denial bliss of its actual existence. The Terrorist nested in inner city northwest side from 1918 -43, in Brightmore, outer northwest side from 1943-1957, Livonia to the mid 1970s, and Livingston County the rest of the century. The main thrust being when they move, the entire white population moves, most without knowing of their existence. There were over 800,000 people living in the inner city westside in 1943. There was near 100,000 by 1950, every Christian Laboter, street neighbor, fried, all heading to the outer city, cause the Terrorist were thrown out. The Book is written in 18 Chapters. The first five when the Terrorist dominated the northwest side. The next 13 are after the inner city exit, each year from 43-01 having one heyday area, while the rest lived in decline, or waiting for the heyday to move their way. Each Chapter has three parts, an Overture, the Heyday, and its decline. The Overatues were written after the other two pasts were written. They are personal stories that were told by my ancestors, to times I lived through, ever circling cycle of racism. The Heyday describes a certain school area, and its affectious attraction. The third part, the decline, and decaying racism effects has on its Sheep. The last two Chapters the decline was too known, in order to sense the celine. The first 16 Chapters had run their course at publication.

With the first prototype rolling off the assembly line in 1935, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the world's first truly mass-produced four engined heavy bomber. The B-17 was used as the backbone of the US Army Air Force's strategic bomber forces through all theaters of the Second World War. Used as a strategic bomber from Europe to Burma to the Pacific and North Africa, the B-17 earned a well-deserved reputation for bomb load, firepower, versatility and sheer ruggedness of the airframe. The B-17 carried a crew of 10 and the aircraft routinely hauled thousands of pounds of bombs on long-range "Aluminum Overcast" bombing missions Carrying a crew of ten, and 8,000 pounds of bombs on long range missions, the B-17 wreaked havoc on Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan during the most critical years of the Second World War.Printed by the U.S. Army Air Force's Office of Flying Safety in 1944, this B-17 Bomber Pilot's Flight Operating Manual was an easy-to-read reference book which at a glance reminded B-17 pilots everything they needed to know about the "Fort."
