  • av Linda Carleton
    328,-

Linda Carleton likes to describe her memoir All God, If God There Be as what might have resulted if the medieval German abbess Hildegard of Bingen had encountered Me Too. It chronicles her healing journey from childhood sexual abuse through a variety of spiritual paths and employs the practice of mandala journaling to explore both theology and her inner life.Written with sensitivity and compassion, All God, If God There Be examines the deep wounds inflicted by childhood trauma, the exhilaration of mystical experiences, the joy of teaching comparative religions, her struggle with Christian doctrine, the challenges of working in refugee resettlement, and the insights drawn from New Age philosophies. While gratified by these experiences, Linda still feels something is missing in her soul. Slowly she comes to realize that to find peace, she must fully confront her past. Through a variety of healing modalities, she explores the depth of her childhood abuse and comes to integrate her myriad spiritual paths into a joyful life embraced by Incarnate Light.A unique survivor story, All God, If God There Beshares a path of healing that will appeal to those looking for an anchor in today's spiritual marketplace. It dives into the power of the Spirit to bring holistic healing to the souls of hurting people.

The day before Robert died was an otherwise perfect June day in Connecticut: warm but not hot, with a bit of a breeze, flawless blue sky, puffy white clouds-the sort of weather a sailor loves, and Robert was a sailor. So begins Tara Kelly's moving memoir of her life with Robert Willis, her husband, father of their children, restauranteur, sailor, bon vivant, and alcoholic. From an enchanted start in Manhattan to a townhouse in Brooklyn, from an island in Maine and back to rural Connecticut, in fast cars, sleek boats, and on horseback, Tara and Robert seemed to live a charmed life. But beneath the glittering exterior was the struggle of money, alcohol, and ultimately self-control and hard-won sobriety. When this couple seems to have reached an impasse, separation brings renewed love, and then tragedy brings new challenges. Tara Kelly's memoir is a clear-eyed excavation of the lives lived together and apart by two charismatic modern Americans, a story told in love and compassion for herself and others, a story "...never unsympathetic, and refreshingly free from sentimentality and the temptation to settle old scores" (Michael Korda). A story readers will savor and remember.

Sand Paper Stone is the story of a British man from Liverpool living in London where he works in a decent job, with good friends from different backgrounds, yet as a muslim convert and with a landmark moment in his life approaching he finds himself compelled to embark on his pilgrimage to Mecca. Despite encountering obstacles at the consulate in London and also on arrival at Jeddah he is taken in as a 'wayfarer' by a large extended family who assist in instructing him in the rituals and requirements of attendance at Islam's holiest shrine and watch on at his astonishment at the scenes that they witness together. However, just at the moment when he begins to come close to realising the spiritual ambitions of his journey, the practicalities of life invade the peace in the form of what seems petty officialdom and he finds himself launched into a bureaucratic maze, at first trapped in baffling meetings with lofty government ministers and lethargic administrators before finally running alone in the night through an empty terminal onto a runway looking for a plane to Geneva.
