  • - A Journey of a Lifetime
    av Lucy Faye Harris
    245,-

From Fairfield to Fort Worth is the gripping autobiography of a God-fearing, Christian woman revealing secrets about her past that are often quite unbelievable. The numerous challenges she encountered took her to some dark places. Pictured here with her son Sultan, who encouraged her to put her story in print, Dr. Harris is convinced that hers is a story that needs to be told. How could anyone experience such disorder and live to tell about it? Only she and God know. Because the bondage of entrapment felt deadly, she needed help. The Word of God tells believers there will be trials and tribulations in life, still, she felt that hers were never-ending. She knew of others who had similar experiences, and recognized they too needed help. So after many years of toiling with letting go and letting God, she put her pen to paper. In this book, she opens up and talks about her self-induced state of low self-esteem. She shares how her life was drastically changed, but only through the help of God, her Creator and Savior. This book is written to show others how to let go of the hurts of the past and live a life in freedom. She takes pride in telling young women that when they are faced with what seem like locked doors, keep kicking until the doors open. When life gives you lemons, add a little sugar and water to make lemonade. She tells the reader that God's Word has all the answers to overcome the emotional, physical, and mental issues of life. Dr. Harris desires all to walk in wholeness just as she now does.

  • - A Memoir Of My Early Years
    av Brian J Cathcart
    111

  • av Robert Steven McGuire
    145,-

This book is based on fact. While serving in Western Germany during the Cold War this soldier had gotten into some trouble for a couple of very minor offenses which were in reality everyday occurrences in Europe at the time. The young soldier was forced to work for Military Intelligence. They were officially in charge, but the soldier was really working with the Military Police not with Military Intelligence. So don't expect the same old boring story that most Military Intelligence books have to offer. This is anything but that! The soldier in question was introduced into a world of sex, drugs, and police work that dealt with gun-running, drug smuggling, and Neo-Nazi militant organizations. Not only was spying on fellow Americans a part of the job, but also German counterparts as well.

"Frontier raised, self taught lawyer and accountant, James A. Drain Sr. was held in confidence by every president from Teddy to Franklin Roosevelt. He does not leap from the pages of history, but seldom will you find a man of any era who could say more often, "I was there." He brought the model of present day National Guard with him from Washington State to the rest of the nation in 1903, paving the way for American success in World War One.Losing his right hand in a hunting accident did not sate his love of hunting and arms, nor his love of country. He led the Gold Medal shooting team in the London Olympics in 1908. He rescued a struggling magazine and gave it to the National Rifle Association in 1916 while helping to grow that organization to national recognition. He was the only person to serve in Europe during the Great War with a significant handicap. His forethought and knowledge of weaponry earned him a front row seat. As adjutant to Pershing, he toured the front and was a member of the Anglo-American Tank Commission, working closely with Stern, Churchill, Bliss and others. He was one of the founders of the American Legion. In 1925, he became the National Commander and was the first to invite a sitting President to speak. He helped found the Childrens' Welfare Department with a $5 million dollar trust, reversing a decline in membership that has never returned. His entire life was devoted to public service, for which he never really profited. Read about one of the descendants of William Whitely, the man who died killing Chief Tecumseh during the War of 1812. This recently discovered book covers James A. Drain, Sr.'s life until 1929. Extensively annotated, Jim walks you through one of the most exciting eras in American history."

  • av Debora Gatelli
    95,-

Frequently, the mother-daughter relationship is tricky; you either have the closest link or a tumultuous one. My relationship with my mother was a combination of both. Years passed before we were ultimately on the same page, but the outcomes were so unexpected and inexplicable. My mother was the source of my most important life lessons. I witnessed her at the pinnacle of her existence, and while she endured hardships and tribulations, I went through the same experiences. We grew close during a moment in my life when I needed her the most, and over time she became my inspiration and driving force. But all good things must come to an end, and as we reached the conclusion of our voyage together, I was able to see and learn more from my mother. As she faded from my life, I also gained insight from her passing, and I wouldn't give a second of her presence for anything. She was a priceless gift that God gave to me until he required her return.

Much has changed of course, but not nearly enough! My hope in sharing the challenges I faced personally and professionally in journeying through foreign landscapes in over 100 countries, battling pandemics and politics, witnessing tragedies and triumphs, fighting for science and truth, and facing my own personal struggles and professional setbacks...is that the essence of my truths and how I bounced back might help others. My strong advice is to never ever give up!

  • - a memoir
    av Bradley James Butterfield
    217

In telling the story of his own accidental "coming of age," English professor Bradley Butterfield tells the stories of a whole cast of lovable, if fallible, characters from his childhood and of the Denver he grew up in from the dawn of disco to the Reagan era. IDIOT BOYS is a relentlessly funny, heartbreakingly sad, and ultimately philosophical look at the particular idiocy of boys and the universal stupidity of man. Each chapter, or "Exhibit," represents a rough archetype of idiot boy behavior and a stage in young Butterfield's quixotic quest to figure himself out and become the hero of his own movie. Butterfield's narration meanders between every phase of his youth, from pre-school to his first semester in college, but there turns out to be a method in this seeming madness as it builds to a gut-wrenching climax involving repressed memories surrounding his mother's death and the inevitable dissolution of those childhood friendships he thought would last forever.

  • - A Mythical American Memoir
    av Alexandra Teague
    385,-

In these quirky and richly told tales, Alexandra Teague brings readers along for the wild ride of her youth, traversing wide swaths of the American landscape in the company of a talking puppet, Victorian ghosts, and a family fueled by fantasy, dysfunction, and fierce love. Why did people who shunned the culture of consumerism and prided themselves on making everything from scratch take annual trips to Disney World, the mecca of mass-manufactured fun? Did her mother really have psychic abilities? Why did her sensitive youngest nephew speak in a voice that wasn't his own? How do family legacies of grief and dysfunction and creativity intersect? How can she escape her circumstances without replicating the escapist fantasies with which she was raised? Teague attempts to understand and contextualize her family in terms of trauma and mental health, but also with deep love and humor. Carefully attuned to the vagaries of geographical cultures, she weaves her family's history with explorations of pop culture and the specific cultures of the places she and her family pass through: a Texas city, an Arkansas Victorian tourist town, a Southwest ghost town, Central Florida, the Bay Area, Kansas City, and Moscow, Idaho--a college town in the Inland Northwest.a college town in the Inland Northwest. Spinning Tea Cups will appeal to readers interested in American cultural studies, those concerned with the ongoing crisis of mental illness in this country, and anyone seeking to explore the dangerous and recuperative powers of fantasy.

Candid, heartfelt, true story. Adventures and inner journey, expectations and reality, travel and relationships, at the end of the day, it is all about love which changes everything and what we have to go through to feel it.A candid narrator tells about herself, a young woman who tries to find a way to be happy by unconditionally loving everyone in this world. She sets out for a journey with her mysterious partner and takes the reader all across Europe, India, Morocco, and the Canary Islands. Together they meditate, fast, experiment, and what not. Whereas, her inner growth and the anticipation of the New Age which would bring a beautiful transformation of the entire humanity are felt throughout. "Brilliant, personal, open-heartedly taled coming of age story about a young woman seeking for the true love, true self and the bright new age for humanity on this beautiful planet, in the backdrop of a natural and free world of hippies. Personally, I find this story emotionally and mentally stimulating, stirring up and bringing up things in me that are often hidden or harder to deal with. I found myself reading a chapter and taking longer breaks to digest and reflect on what just happened, both in a narrative of this book and within me. I really felt for the characters in the book, almost like being there, whatever they were going through. Being in love, falling out of love. Travelling through heavily guarded country borders without passports or loaded with recreational substances. Living in fairytale-like settings surrounded by mountains and valleys, in yurts all wrapped in the cosiness of wool and woodburning fire. Feeling on edge, dreamy, being transformed, threatened to lose, jealous, crazy, elevated, loved, cared for, abandoned. Committing to higher ideals and unconventional relationships yet finding oneself in an utter abyss of hatred, anger and jealousy. Seeking enlightenment, bliss and openheartedness, fasting for months, losing material attachments, realising human potential, expanding horizons of freedom, sheltering in hippy settlements on southern waterfronts and beaches, meeting people, letting go, bathing in the river Ganges, feeling its sacredness, being guided by the universe, connecting, learning about world religions and traditions of wisdom and practising them and letting them go and so much more. Meeting your shadow is a difficult thing. Dealing with ego and trauma from the past, being mirrored parts of yourself you don't want to see or don't want to accept is difficult too. And this has a big role in this story, with tremendous sincerity and detail described are the darkest and the lightest of feelings and thoughts. Probably this was one of the reasons I found this story so therapeutic and even healing. This book is also full packed of adventures, painting a vivid living picture of a new age travellers lifestyle: moving around with caravans and yurts, camping in beautiful nature all across Europe, living in alternative communities, attending arts and crafts festivals, being taken by the biggest religious festival in India, bathing with babas, living in caves on subtropical islands, soap bubbling in streets for a living, squatting in London etc. I couldn't recommend it more, it's a journey within and journey without, beautiful, meaningful and touching."Juozas
