A story of discovery, as a son reconstructs the life of a father he never truly knew in life. Hanus Neumann enjoys an idyllic childhood in western Czechoslovakia, until 1939 when the Nazi occupation shatters his family and, at age 18, he somehow manages an unlikely escape to America, where he begins a new life as Jack Neuman. What follows is an eventful life of unexpected turns and adventure. He returns to Europe, first to fight WWII with US Army Intelligence as one of the celebrated Ritchie Boys; and later as one of the first American private citizens to go behind the Iron Curtain. His life work then unfolds as a trailblazer in the emerging international travel business. Jack's life ends tragically in his early 50s, without fully revealing his life story to those who knew and loved him. Now, almost a half century later that story is brought to life, revealed through an extensive collection of documents and photos that he inexplicably left behind.

I am a student of Tao Te Ching. These poems are paradoxical, describing my experiences with Tao with words that cannot capture its essence. I discovered the written Tao Te Ching in 2010 when I was sixty-one years old. The more I read, the more I realized I had experienced the living spirit of Tao Te Ching many times, through an enduring relationship with Nature, that began when I was a child playing in the snow. These poems are not a translation of Tao Te Ching. Rather, they express my experiences, interpretations and impressions of the eighty-one verses. There is purposeful repetition in these poems as there is in the verses of Tao Te Ching. Silently, or adventurously out loud, read the poems; visualize each stanza. I invite you to reflect on your own life by the attribute of each verse that is presented in this collection. Feel free to journal or sketch your experiences or visions. Go ahead, engage Tao and tell your story on the blank journal pages adjacent to my poems. My soul is forever grateful for the texts and experiences that inspired this book. My hope is that Tao Te Ching will enhance your life with Nature, as it has enhanced mine. RW Hunker Jr
It will be called her good luck that Lakshmibai, born in an ordinary Brahmin family, became the Maharani. But the rare reticence, courage and bravery she displayed while fighting the enemy army during India's first fight for freedom were her individual understanding and her genius as a warrior. Some of our own brethren played traitors in India's fight for freedom, otherwise the Englishmen would have abandoned and left India at that time itself I the face of the Maharani's courage and valour. This book presents a date wise account of these events.

If you could choose between being Black and being white, what would you do?As a child, Brianna Wheeler, the mixed-race descendant of Dangerfield Newby-first of John Brown's raiders to die at Harpers Ferry in their bid to end slavery-unconsciously chose whiteness, unaware that she had the choice at all. As an adult, following the deaths of her mother and grandmother, Brianna struggled with her own identity, convinced that her lasting legacy would be the rejection of her own Blackness. Then, in 2020, a racial reckoning rekindled her connection to both her heritage and her grandmother's lifelong work of preserving the stories of Dangerfield and the rest of her ancestors, leading Brianna to confront both long-held family dynamics and her own place in history-from a new perspective.A unique blend of memoir, creative nonfiction and illustration, Altogether Different untangles the complex connection between the stories we tell ourselves and the histories preserved for us.
Hundreds of years from now, anthropologists will puzzle: twenty-first century humans lived in some of the wealthiest societies in history, yet only a minority of us, around a third, reported being happy. Why? One big problem is that so many of us feel trapped, playing a part rather than being our true selves; pursuing an expected path to success, which is supposed to bring happiness but that doesn't actually excite us or nurture our souls. Is this you? Perhaps you feel out of your natural element much of the time, undervalued, or left behind. Maybe you long to break free and stop following the herd. Let's face it, though. We live in a white-sheep world, and that's where Peter Sims initially found himself, working inside the capital markets of London. As "just another suit chasing the next sip of sugar water" in the hamster wheel of life, Sims and his colleagues wondered if there's a better life on the other side? Turns out, the black sheep were everywhere, doing things differently-starting with living life. If the thought of freeing your inner child exhilarates you, we invite you to crack open this book. If you yearn to dance to your own music, read on. If the idea of black sheep reinventing the world from the ground up excites you, join Peter as he shares his deeply personal journey and the development of the Black Sheep movement
A gripping reckoning with the bloody history of Australia's frontier warsDavid Marr was shocked to discover forebears who served with the brutal Native Police in the bloodiest years on the frontier. Killing for Country is the result - a soul-searching Australian history. This is a richly detailed saga of politics and power in the colonial world - of land seized, fortunes made and lost, and the violence let loose as squatters and their allies fought for possession of the country - a war still unresolved in today's Australia."This book is more than a personal reckoning with Marr's forebears and their crimes. It is an account of an Australian war fought here in our own country, with names, dates, crimes, body counts and the ghastly, remorseless views of the 'settlers'. Thank you, David."-Marcia Langton

This is the first literary work, written by Gregory W. Kemmis, an acclaimed artist. He specializes in media production, whose previous experiences include a plethora of original works and performances within the music industry. During the most recent decade to date, he rapidly grew within his career, expanding his knowledge and applied skills to include creating independent documentaries or episodic series.Intentionally covering on some of the most pressing issues, to educate and spark awareness about experience, adaptation and controversial topics still at large presently, Kemmis has taken this goal to another level when considering the writings contained within The One By One Documentaries. It should also be noted that this literary work is a collection of what once was an episodic series made for television broadcasts, but was never actually distributed to the public. Although this remains the case regarding the television series, Kemmis has changed direction to avail the opportunity to publish this series in book form. It was critical to him that the events contained within The One By One Documentaries be heard and spoken to worldwide readers as generations continue to adapt to life and culture. He composes this book as the first of what should remain important compilations towards sufficiently leading a way towards past silencing rights to express ourselves.
