Almost True Hollywood Stories is an offbeat, darkly funny fictional account of insider Bradley Lewis' experiences writing screenplays while living and socializing with the elite 'Hollywoodland' crowd. Doctors, agents, celebrated talent, writers, producers, business moguls, wannabes, medical students, the fabled Hillcrest Country Club and the Beverly Hills Tennis Club are all represented. Even deli owners and their families, as they intersect to form a meld of backstage show business and a macabre horror plot. This authentic view of the entertainment industry will appeal to any show business junkie, as well as anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

In early 2018 the Facebook page In Her Shoes: Women of the Eighth began as an art project with the intention to change undecided voters' minds in the upcoming referendum on the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. The grassroots project posted anonymous stories of the negative impacts of the Eighth Amendment alongside a simple photo of a pair of shoes. In the five months from its creation to the referendum vote on 25 May 2018, the page grew over 115,000 followers with an organic reader reach of over four million per week. RTÉ reported that it was 'stories in the media' that influenced 43 per cent of voters to vote Yes.Out of the thousand stories sent to In Her Shoes, Erin Darcy has selected thirty-two as a representation of the entire island of Ireland. The anonymous stories are reproduced with their authors' consent and remain in their original words. By preserving these stories within this book, we enshrine women's experiences in history where are often written out. In Her Shoes is the story of a changing social landscape, of an uprising within the author and within Ireland.Fully illustrated by the author, this book will speak to the historical importance of women's storytelling and include a collection of 32 stories, representing the 32 counties on the island of Ireland.
Long Island Purgatory is a touching, funny, memoir with fictional elements that captures the voice of a soon-to-be thirteen-year-old, skeptical of approaching adulthood. Bennie-The-Brain, as some of his classmates and townspeople refer to him, is caught up in the aftermath of the shock waves from the JFK assassination. Perhaps intelligent beyond his years, Bennie is about to face something even more powerful than the death of his hero, something that he cannot fathom. This unusual but real treatment of racial upheaval and urban transformation in Laurelton, investigates the impact of blockbusting on the lives of Bennie, his family, and the rest of the mostly Jewish town. Blockbusting refers to a practice in which real estate agents sold a house on an all-white block to an African-American family. The panic among the remaining residents has often been referred to as "white flight". Lewis describes a widely forgotten phenomenon of recent social history, including his own real-life horrors and painful memories. Inside this strikingly candid, vividly written account of his experience, he takes us behind the scenes in 1963. We journey with him through both frank and poignant vignettes that convey the human cost of racism. Long Island Purgatory tells a powerful and deeply personal story that allows us an unprecedented look back at a sad piece of our history.

You've heard what they have to say about one of Australia's most influential commentators. Now it's time for him to tell you the whole story. Avi Yemini has been labelled many things by mainstream media detractors and their political allies over the years, usually targeting his character by bad faith actors pretending to know him. The Melbourne-based Rebel News reporter has been unable to (legally) respond to some of their worst smears - until now.Usually, Avi tells others' stories. Now he tells his. In this tell-all book, Avi ends his uncharacteristic silence to set the record straight. Trigger warning: his story is always compelling but not always pretty. Avi is the tenth of seventeen children raised in an ultra-orthodox Jewish home who found himself on the street, on drugs and on the wrong side of the law as a young teenager. He turned to the Israeli Army for salvation, then moved back to restart his life in Australia, only to find himself in a toxic relationship that has been weaponised by those who hate how he landed on his feet. But every challenge Avi faced only helped form the popular personality, loving father and husband - and he's only getting started.
The story is about Louise Meek and her spiritual journey from abuse, foster care, adoption, homelessness to survival and a renewed sense of family.
One woman's story of how she drew up the courage to say, "Breast cancer stops here with me, right now!" This is how she found the strength and determination to beat breast cancer before it had the chance to get her. Joanne Ameruoso learned at a very young age that genetics would play an important role in her life. Having a strong history of breast cancer on her maternal side (grandmother, aunt, and mother), she knew early on that she had to take a stance and be an advocate for herself. When Joanne's mother discovered that she had a lump, she sealed her own fate by allowing fear to dictate her end result. After having lost her mother in a very traumatic way, Joanne Ameruoso was then propelled to find the faith to overcome her fear. In this compelling memoir, Joanne Ameruoso brings you along a life's journey of defeats-the triumphs, the fear and the fight. With her faith constantly being tested, Joanne was always one determined to beat the odds. She learned to find her voice and to fight for the right to take preventative measures. She came to realize that with the right team of doctors behind you, anything is possible. Faith Over Fear is an empowering story with many messages of holding onto hope when things seem hopeless. Miracles can happen-you just have to believe. You are stronger than you ever knew you were. Never allow fear to stand in the way of determination.
Small print edition 5x8 - Starkishia: Estrella is a story about a little girl who grew up too fast to feel the grass wear thin under the soles of her shoes. Abuse thickened her skin, yet her nightmares were as dark as they were real. The library became her sanctuary where stories took her to another place and time. But, in reality there was nothing imaginary about the bruises under her clothing as she advanced from one classroom to another during middle school, or nothing fictitious about being molested by the maggot hands of a despicable relative. Her plight was hidden in a small town in Georgia, just as her physical abuse was disregarded by the school's social worker. This colored child was brought into this world by her 14 year old mother who was ruthlessly dominated by her husband. Starkishia loved her mother above all else; her step-father who provided shelter for them witnessed her birth and helped raise her. She consumed pieces of joy, but sometimes she received broken reprisals and ended up walking down the dark road alone; yet in some fortunate way humanity was always within reach. After her parents split up, Starkishia and her family ended up in Texas. Single parenthood changed their family structure forevermore. Starkishia became a wage earner at age 13; she also became homeless the following year. She was, for years, engulfed by her impoverished and dysfunctional environment. She married a native of Mexico a few days after her 15th birthday. He nicknamed her 'Estrella' a Spanish term which means 'Star.' It goes without saying that Starkishia was born in the land of opportunity, but it was not exactly within her reach. Yes, she was her grandmother's star, but she was a statistic of minimal proportions as far as small town and suburbia America was concerned. Shortly after marriage, she became a mother. Afterward the life of this teen went downhill at lightning speed. Many readers will identify with her; for, she walked away from her husband broken hearted; then, she fell in love with another man, and as new babies arrived, she took her limited funds and focused on the lives of those under her roof; in time, her parental absence to her oldest two children turned flat out into abandonment. Have mercy! Starkishia was a lost teen, but through grace she eventually became a productive woman in American society. Peace. Fear. Love. Hate. Respect. Abuse. Just how much can one person take? Eyes of Kindness: A Life Sacrificed dives into the tumultuous life of a boy-turned-man. When those in his life who were supposed to guide and mentor him failed him at nearly every turn, the author found himself having to live out the teachings of Christ that his mother often emulated in his youth. Was it easy? No. He was regularly exposed to alcoholism, drug addiction, physical violence, and more at home and on the streets of the city. What could he do to break free from the evil chains that kept him bound to urban street life as he knew it? Within the pages of this book, you will read Randy's transparent testimony of his life on the edge of the "Lake of Fire," as mentioned in the Book of Revelation 19:20. Just when he thought he could not make a change, he became the change. Prison couldn't stop him. His family couldn't stop him. Love couldn't stop him. ONLY GOD could-and He did! This is Randy L. Young, Jr.'s account of how the unconditional love of Christ Jesus turned a young man with a dark past into a man who shines Christ's light on those who choose to freely receive his message.

This may be a real-life case of poverty, sexism, and injustice, but this is also a success story of resilience and the relentless pursuit of dreams through education-the life story of a strong woman who persevered and confidently believed in herself. Since the beginning of time, society has always positioned women below men. This has been the case wherever you go-from the most advanced cities down to the less-developed places. Fundamental human rights and privileges are stripped from women just because they're not men. Countless historical records show how women are treated to uphold the importance of gender roles and stereotypes. Men are eager to move mountains just to prevent women from making a name for themselves. You've seen how young women struggled to voice out and be heard for their right to almost everything: education, employment, freedom... You've heard about brave women being ridiculed and bashed-tortured for speaking their minds and going against a system designed to allow men (and only them) to soar high. Alice's experienced these exact harsh realities of life from a young age in Uganda when it was under the dictatorship of Idi Amin. It was hard, and the people around her made it more complicated. She came from a family stricken by poverty and lived in a town where education was only available for boys. How will you get out of your situation when you are not allowed to take your best shot at getting a life-changing career? But as a woman herself, Alice knows what she's capable of and she is here to inspire all women in a similar predicament to her in the past. Inside this inspiring memoir, you'll discover: ●A life-changing story of how a young girl changed her life by completing her education despite the struggles and problems she faced the intensity of a mother's love that allows her daughters to start and finish school in a society where quality education is not freely given to girls a glimpse into African culture in the past, and how the culture affects the well-being of children, particularly girls - and how Alice broke the shackles of this exact sexism and helped herself move forward ●Alice's courageous school journey, including walking several miles barefoot and being paranoid of kidnappers at a time when children going missing was a rampant case ●How a young girl experienced some of the cruel realities of arranged marriage and how she freed herself from an abusive relationship ●Miracles are true as long as you do your best and never give up - and how these miracles manifested in Alice's life and much more. Alice's story is a prime example of rising from adversity. She had nothing but dreams and a drive for purpose. When Plan A doesn't work, there is always Plan B, Plan C, and 23 more letters in the alphabet-that's how Alice's mother taught her. This is the mantra that helped her thrive. You can be like Alice, too. Successful, happy, and wealthy. To discover more of Alice's story and a pool of valuable life lessons, then scroll up and click "Add to Cart" right now.
Heralded by a remarkable horoscope of three tigers, Kim Roberts was born in the Village of Flowers on the Mekong River. Her life unfolds during the brutality of the French and American wars in Viet Nam, depicted with vivid and unexpected details about the secret alliances and complicated relationships among family desperately trying to stay alive, but caught between the "Shadows of the Night," the American Army, and the Vietnamese military. Haunted by a transforming meeting with an extraordinary American general, she finds a way, with her indomitable spirit and the fateful inspiration of her astrological guide, to escape violence and tragedy around her and make a near-impossible escape to America. This memoir tells how, against all odds, she achieves the professional life and independence her mother had always wanted for her and is at last reunited with the general. "The Vietnamese Girl with Three Tigers and the American General tells an epic story made even more remarkable by the fact that it is true. This memoir depicts the eventful life of a beautiful Vietnamese woman, raised in a small Vietnamese village, who overcame the tragedies of war, made a daring escape to the United States, and married the American three-star general who had commanded the U.S. 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam. Love begins amid the chaos of the Vietnamese War-love preordained by her powerful astrological birth sign of three tigers that predicted a life filled with challenges, great sadness, conflicts, and exhilarating triumphs. From their first meeting, when she was seventeen, the girl and the American general find their lives inexorably intertwined. Despite detours, their bonds strengthen during the ensuing tumultuous years and eventually lead to a marriage in which they became a couple of influence in San Francisco. This thoughtful and detailed account by Kim Roberts follows the extraordinary story up to the death of the general." --Dr. Martin Pernoll

Almost every woman can relate to having to rediscover life after heartbreak. For some of us, that heartbreak happens very young; in her case, she was very young. The abandonment by her father and the death of her grandfather shaped her in a way she did not discover until she was well into her twenties. She never desired to express how it made her feel because she knew she had to be strong for her family, so like many girls, she carried her pain and frustration. But like with many things in nature what you bury, eventually grows.Nia Jovan Andrews, 37, is re-releasing her memoirs "As Thyself" by Nia. The book journeys through her life experiences, showing how she took the failures, heartbreak, and disappointments as opportunities to become a better person. "As Thyself" by Nia chronicles many of Nia's personal experiences that helped her get to a place where she realized that she needed to self-evaluate to live her life self-aware, gaining an understanding that what she brings to any situation or relationship can affect the temperature of that experience. She says, "Many young adults will not take ownership over what they bring, because sometimes they don't realize that they're operating in bad behaviors, because they won't dig deep enough to recognize their issues; that was me!" She added, "I thought I was right about everything, I was very close-minded, selfish, and hungry for success, which is a recipe for disaster. I needed to be saved from myself (lol). I see many of my peers on that same path and if I can help them in their early twenties, great, but I see them over thirty making some of the mistakes I made when I was twenty, especially in romantic relationships, I mean, that is still a work-in-progress, but since I became more open-minded, I'm not making decisions with bad information."This memoir reveals many of those moments where she was operating in immaturity and then she will share the lesson and the areas that she had to evaluate to get the lesson, then apply it to her life now.About the author: A graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Magazine Article Writing, and in 2017 she completed a Master of Jurisprudence in Intellectual Property at The John Marshall Law School Chicago, now the University of Chicago in Illinois Law School. "I have been asked, repeatedly, as if by design I wrote this book, why I decided to write it. The reasons for me to write it were not mine, but yours: you encouraged me to write down what I only wanted to forget. The stories within, then, are not mine, but ours." Richard Zia Reared by Wolves is a classical story of a child twisting in the wind; the synthesis of survival instinct, do-or-die nerve, plain luck, and an intractable stubbornness keep him one step ahead of a forecasted disastrous outcome before he reaches age eighteen. Young Richard seeks freedom, a day free, a life free, of beatings, starvation and imprisonment and sexual exploitation. Richard runs, hides, and fights to stay alive just one more day as a second-class citizen in the freest country in the world: The United States of America. Reared by Wolves illustrates the road to destruction in a society where many children are treated as unwanted dogs who just won't die, where adults are waking monsters who won't disappear with the rising sun, the time when nightmares are supposed to end. It is both memoir and a bill of indictment of our child welfare and juvenile justice systems, as well as a cautionary tale and rebuke of the dank underbelly of foster-care. Lastly, Reared by Wolves is an homage to the unexpected, abiding decency in so many random people, for without their compassion and bravery the realization of any happiness at all in this life would be impossible.

Like so many people, I've spent way too much money on things to make me happy: cars, boats, computers, hobbies, education, domestic and world travel, donations to churches and causes, and embarrassing sums of money on pursuing The Relationship. Now, in my 50's, I'm back where I started with nothing to show for it. I'm single and living with my parents. I have no partner, no nest egg, a 17-year-old car, and my last job was bagging groceries. As the American Dream goes, my life has been a big waste. But I wouldn't change a thing. If you're after the worldly stuff, I wish you well, but this probably isn't your book. But then, it might be. It should be known that writing from my experiences is, in no way, an attempt to challenge the Second Amendment of the United States of America. I strongly believe in the right to bear arms. I strongly believe in the Second Amendment, which reads as follows: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." I fully acknowledge the great role that arms play and have played in securing our country and helping the United States to become the world power that it is today. Also this is not a book intended to belittle or beat on anyone. This book is simply intended to point out senseless gun violence acts that could have been easily prevented in numerous different ways had we as individuals stepped up and played a positive role by saying something, asking something, or by doing or not doing something. My hope is that experiences of negativity in my past will help increase experiences of positivity in your future. My goal is to help prevent senseless gun violence in America by helping you all understand that, for me to achieve this goal - IT TAKES A NATION.
