A chance encounter with the Marshal of San Bernardino County led to my being hired as a deputy for the San Bernardino County, California Sheriff's Department. Thus began a 22-year career helping to police the largest county in the contiguous 48 states. At over 20,000 square miles, San Bernardino County could hold the states of Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey and Rhode Island within its borders with room to spare. It is larger than the entire country of Switzerland.During my career, I served as a jail deputy, patrol deputy, and as a helicopter observer with the sheriff's aviation division. As a member of the West End Search and Rescue Team, I participated in the search for singer Frank Sinatra's mother when she was killed in a plane crash on San Gorgonio Mountain. I worked as a detective, field training officer, correctional training officer and shift supervisor until I was injured while serving a search warrant and had to retire.It was an interesting and rewarding career in which I met many colorful characters, such as actors Steve McQueen and James Garner. I had the opportunity to meet Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan before my career ended. During my time with the sheriff's department, I helped bring the department from an 'old west' style of law enforcement into the modern age of helicopter patrols, computer-aided dispatching and computers in patrol cars. The most traumatizing situation was when our friend was killed on our porch, and Youngstown started the rumor that we set him up. My life changed forever when I and my brothers separated. My uncle and my cousin were like brothers to me, so they were considered my brothers.

These are the events of how my view of the world was manipulated in such a way that I lived my life in fight or flight mode for more than 30 years and how it took a mental breakdown to find healing, hope and even some peace. All the abuse, neglect, trauma and manipulation taught me to be scared of the world at a very young age. That exponentially multiplied itself in high school where I was robbed twice, once resulting in a crushed eye socket and even more so when the abuse continued in my first marriage. At 39 years old, married for 14 years with a 5 year old daughter, my brain snapped. Its taken 4 years of massive amounts of support, therapy and meds to get to the point where I'm comfortable with myself and sharing this story. The love and support of what's left of my family has been irreplaceable. Ultimately God gets all the glory for seeing me through the first 43 years of my life and now I give the rest to Him. I'm honored to have the ability to share this with you. My prayer for anyone suffering like I did for so long is to seek help with not only a professional, but seek help through God first.

They also lived near their maternal grandparents, who were close friends. One day, the author's grandmother smashed her arm, leading to her mother's warning about consequences. The mystery behind a failed molestation attempt remains unsolved, the author never slept over at her grandmother's home again.One Sunday, the author's cousins and aunt went on a trampoline ride, and the author got two hairline fractures in her right leg. After her maternal grandma passed away from diabetes, the author formed a close bond with her grandfather. The grandfather would take them shopping and share stories of his wartime experiences. Their friendship deepened with age and survived his second marriage.A prostate tumor was discovered after one year, and the doctor operated immediately and started chemotherapy. After chemo, the patient appeared to be in remission. However, the author's grandfather began experiencing double visions on the drive home, which led to his death. The author's brother took him to appointments, and the author's step grandmother shared a room, where he took his last breath. The night he died, the sky was clear and calm, and their pastor prayed for them.The author recalls walking in the woods near their house with best friend Starlight, where they noticed three unrelated carcasses and heard something walking behind them. They ran away, but none of their family believed them. They also remember getting a barn kitten from Starlight, named George, who was initially sweet but later became sassy due to an allergic reaction to a flea spray.Peter got a gray and white male cat named Snowflake, who initially ignored him but eventually pounced on her. She would run in terror when Snowflake tried to play back, making her behavior funny but not funny at the same time.The author enjoyed being in the choral group from middle school through junior year in high school, but never had the opportunity to further their instrumental knowledge.
