    - Harnessing the Power of Regenerative Business to Heal the World
    av Esha Chhabra
    212 - 362,-

Political upheaval and social turmoil have peeled back the layers of capitalism to reveal an uncomfortable truth: historically, businesses have sourced materials from remote corners of the globe and moved millions of people and tons of cargo around the clock, all in the name of profit. Yet many of today's startups are rewriting the rules of business: how it's done, by whom, and, most importantly, for what purpose. Journalist Esha Chhabra explores not only the feel good, do good factors of these restorative enterprises but also the nuanced realities and promise of regenerative business operations. Working to Restore examines revolutionary approaches in nine areas: agriculture, waste, supply chain, inclusivity for the collective good, women in the workforce, travel, health, energy, and finance. The companies profiled are solving global issues: promoting responsible production and consumption, creating opportunities for all, encouraging climate action, and more. Chhabra highlights how their work moves beyond the greenwashed idea of sustainability into a new era of regeneration and restoration. Working to Restore highlights our most innovative entrepreneurs yet, whose efforts of restoration and regeneration should be used as a model for other forward-thinking enterprises. Inspiring and engaging, this book shows it is possible for a business to thrive while living its mission and how the rules can be rewritten to put both the planet and its global citizens at the center.

Most businesses are run by owners who love what they do, only to find it soon becomes a millstone around their neck. Running their business just isn't fun anymore: a chore, not a pleasure; stressful, instead of fun; standing still treading water, instead of growing income and profit. They're desperate to get out of the rut, increase sales to customers, grow profits, reduce their stress levels and get their life back. The Grown-Up Business is a step-by-step program for business owners to help them build rhythm, consistency and momentum in their company. It introduces the reader to the Grown-Up Business Model, a route map to prosperous and sustainable growth. The chapters describe what needs to be done at each stage of growth. It details the What and Why, shows through case studies and examples the Why, and concludes with detailed, structured and tested How to's. Too many business owners are overworked, stressed, lost, confused, lonely or just plain exhausted! The Grown-Up Business sets out a clear pathway for them to rediscover the passion, fun and profit within their business, and how to get their life back. "If you operate a business, buy this book today. Not tomorrow. Today." - Sam Carpenter, author of 'Work the System: The Simple Mechanics of Making More and Working Less', September, 2014

"Crowded Out examines how charitable crowdfunding so quickly overtook public life, where it is taking us, and who gets left behind by this new platformed economy. While crowdfunding has become ubiquitous in our lives, it is largely misunderstood by the public: rather than a friendly free market "powered by the kindness" of strangers, crowdfunding is powerfully reinforcing inequalities and changing the way Americans think about, and access, health care. Drawing on extensive research and rich storytelling, Crowded Out demonstrates how crowdfunding for health is fueled by, and further reinforces, financial and moral "toxicities" in market-based health systems"--

    * With a Foreword by Sir Bob Geldof *'Josh Littlejohn is a rockstar of social impact. Paying It Forward is a much-needed reminder about what is really important.' - Irvine WelshWhen Josh Littlejohn started a small sandwich shop in his home city of Edinburgh, he would never have thought that, within ten years' time, it would be frequented by Hollywood megastars, that he would have opened a string of successful cafés across the UK, and that he would be honoured with an MBE by the Queen. Not to mention raising over £25 million to combat homelessness around the world. And all set in motion by a rough sleeper, named Pete, walking into his café one day and sheepishly asking for a job. Paying It Forward is part memoir, part manifesto for social entrepreneurship, and part manual for putting purpose ahead of profit. It reveals what social entrepreneurship is and how it can make a difference. How if only 20% of entrepreneurs became social entrepreneurs our world would be in a much better state. How we can 'Calculate Risks', why we should 'Help Just One Person' every day, and that 'If You Don't Ask, You Don't Get'. The path to being social entrepreneur is never a smooth one: Paying it Forward is the compass for finding your own path and making a difference in the world.

The Middle East was the region least impacted in the 2008 crisis, has investment systems markedly different to the West, is largely governed by Islamic Shari'a, and has varying forms of governance and institutional organization, which are not understood by many, nor how these systems shape entrepreneurial and industrial development. While the Middle East as a region has seen a small growth in entrepreneurship for women, and business scholarship on the Middle East has grown, there is no text in English that has brought critical insights from the Middle East together in a single volume. In examining women's entrepreneurship in the Middle East, this book aims to challenge Global North assumptions about the disempowering impacts of Islamic Shari'a and governance. Referring to the constraints of Islam on women's subjectivity and agency greatly misunderstands religious identity, of both men and women, and the way in which public administration and private sector institutions are organized in very different ways to Western regions. This timely text expands and adds new insights to the theorizations of women's entrepreneurship in the Middle East, through unravelling spatialized themes, and incorporates contemporary themes including: an Islamic science reading of women, work and venturing; changing families and entrepreneurship development; women managing social crises; Islamization, governance and women; Islamic feminist activisms and entrepreneurship; representations of women's entrepreneurship on social media; and women's collectives leading entrepreneurship via Facebook entrepreneurship. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, and students in the fields of entrepreneurship, gender, work and organizations.

Practicing business with a conscience leaves no sector untouched. It trickles into how we treat our employees; approach our work in general; address stakeholders; engage in accounting, financial, and production management practices; implement and manage information technology; communicate on a direct and indirect basis; and market what we stand for. Business has encountered an interesting evolution in the first two decades of the twenty-first century, with social media as a catalyst aiding greater understanding and improvement regarding the critical value of soft skills, workplace diversity, change readiness, moral responsibility, sustainable awareness, and a general socially responsible mindset. This amalgamate spirit of business as we envision it in both the near and far future has found its way in all segments of business education, research, and practice.Adhering to the global trend of increased responsibility and evoking a constructive change in the narrative of business, this Research Companion serves as a critical reference work for business scholars and practitioners in various settings. It brings together contributing scholars from multiple business areas, from a variety of cultures and locations of the world, in order to achieve the compilation of a reference work that will find an expansive appeal. Including insights from the broad business spectrum ranging from internal managerial practices to strategic applications, including international sensitivity, this volume highlights the urgency for increased awareness in business decision-making on all fronts. It will be of great value to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of corporate social responsibility, business ethics, leadership, organizational studies, and entrepreneurship.
