In the 1st half of Bookkeeping Journey, the author recounts his history of gathering clients when he opened his business in 1971. To start his bookkeeping business, he rented an office and installed a telephone. But having no clients, he had to solicit local businesses, door to door, in order to acquire them. He was reluctant to inquire of business owners who probably did not need him, but he did acquire a critical first of many clients. He provided financial statements and other services for over 50 kinds of businesses and did tax returns for many of them. Lots of these interesting stories describe the business owner's situation when the bookkeeper obtained him/her as a client. The author shares his personal observations of his clients' ups and downs from business decisions they make. Other unrelated topics are covered: The second half of the book addresses the importance of learning to understand an Income Statement & Balance Sheet. Though not as comprehensive as the 2nd book, described below, it gives information on how to manage from these statements.
