Diverse Studien haben sich mit der Frage nach der Rolle des "kulturellen Wissens" beim Leseverstehen beschäftigt. Zu hinterfragen sind dabei zum einen die Annahme, dass fremdsprachige Personen aufgrund ihrer Sprachkenntnisse nur über geringe Wissensbestände zu einem spezifischen, "kulturell geprägten" Thema verfügen und zum anderen die Begriffe, die diese Wissensbestände bezeichnen sollen, und schließlich die Themenauswahl. Die vorliegende empirische Untersuchung möchte der Frage nach der Rolle dieses Wissens bei der Kohärenzbildung in den fremdsprachlichen Leseprozessen - aus einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Perspektive des Fachs DaF/DaZ - erneut nachgehen und die Ergebnisse wissenschaftlich fundieren. Basis ist eine Betrachtung der Leseprozesse von deutsch- und arabischsprachigen Lesenden zu zwei deutschen Texten zum Thema Hartz IV (Bürgergeld), wobei der Zugang durch die Methode des Lauten Denkens ermöglicht wird. Dies erlaubt auch die Beantwortung weiterer Fragen: Welche Wissensaspekte lassen sich bei den Kohärenzbildungsprozessen identifizieren?
