La literatura forma parte desde hace siglos de la educación escolar y, pese a los rápidos cambios a los que asistimos en las sociedades actuales, se sigue enseñando en gran medida de la misma forma. Die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Nationalsozialismus an deutschen Universitäten setzte nicht erst mit der Studentenbewegung von ¿68 ein. Schon Mitte der 1960er Jahre forderten Tübinger Studierende, inspiriert durch Persönlichkeiten wie Hermann Gremliza, eine Konfrontation mit der NS-Vergangenheit der akademischen Lehrkräfte. Die Antwort der Universität Tübingen auf diesen Druck war die Ringvorlesung ¿Deutsches Geistesleben und Nationalsozialismus¿ (1964/65), die weit über die Stadtgrenzen hinaus Beachtung fand und den lange herrschenden Schweigekonsens innerhalb der westdeutschen Hochschullandschaft brach. In seinem Werk beleuchtet Bastian Wade diese entscheidende Phase der ¿Vergangenheitspolitik im Hörsaal¿, die nicht nur Spuren in der Bundesrepublik hinterließ, sondern auch die Grenzen und Möglichkeiten der akademischen Aufarbeitung von Schuld aufzeigte. Durch eine detaillierte Analyse der damaligen Akteure und Rahmenbedingungen bietet Wade einen neuen Blick auf eine bisher wenig beachtete Facette der deutschen Nachkriegsgeschichte.
