In an attempt to reenergize his practice, a mild-mannered, blandly ineffectual psychologist organizes an anonymous peer-counseling self-help group that is haphazardly attended by seven divergent strangers-a punk rocker, a teenaged prostitute, a DMV examiner, a food critic, a judge, a priest, and a little old lady.As the story unfolds in a series of meetings and the motivation of each member to seek group therapy becomes clear, we learn that the punk rocker, a gentle, clumsy dufus, is less than a party animal; that the prostitute, for all of her volatile, angry street smarts, is a virgin; that the driving examiner is on the edge of a job-induced nervous collapse; that the food critic, an amiable four-hundred pounder, cannot criticize anything; that the judge, a meek and mousey public defender until her recent promotion to a judgeship, cannot seem to make her mind up about anything; that the priest, old and acidically embittered, has lost his faith; and that the little old lady is lost in a doddering reverie that shrouds her very being in a fog-like time warp.As the various conflicts and challenges facing each member gain volition through their group interactions, culminating in a field trip retreat to the countryside, a further twist develops, involving the seemingly inept doctor himself, one that would potentially undermine what little progress the members have made thus far and derail their group altogether. This story was originally inspired by the comedy of Bob Newhart, in particular, his 1970s television sitcom The Bob Newhart Show, and in many ways is a tribute to this comedian and to this program and, in a larger sense, to the offbeat and abstract profundities of dry humor and the ironies of the human psyche. It is a mostly humorous, poignant story of surviving life, intended to inspire laughter, commiseration, and hope for the underdogs, the has-beens, the losers, and the lost, in a world in which being unbalanced can actually turn out to be the key to staying sane.
The title of this book sounds like an oxymoron because the book reveals an oxymoronic nature of marriage. Idealistically, marriage was designed by God to be like paradise or heaven on earth, but realistically, marriage has become a game of two contradictions and paradoxes: blessing and curse. These two words-blessing and curse-are an oxymoron that describes the reality of marriage in this present world. The book examines some hidden and unhidden paradoxical and opposite realities (blessing and curse) which everyone experiences in marriage and how to solve them. This book reveals two expected and unexpected realities (blessing and curse) which every couple expect to meet in marriage. They are Myth versus Mystery, Contract versus Covenant, Fact versus Faith, Benevolent versus Malevolent, Endurance versus Enjoyment, Egocentric versus Christocentric, Growing versus Groaning, and Reformation versus Transformation. The book will be of great benefit to the singles to know what they need to know before committing to marriage; to the married to help them understand and overcome some crises or conflicts they face in their marriages; and to ministers and marriage counselors to help them in providing guide and direction in premarital and marital counseling. The contents of the book are developed and based on the biblical, theological, psychological, and pastoral explanations.

Man has been on earth for millions of years. Recorded history has covered only a few thousands of these years. Archeologists can account for a few thousand more. If you think about it, that leaves time for numerous rises and falls of advanced cultures, sufficient time that no sign of their existence would be recognizable today. Some of these near extinctions were probably triggered by worldwide events. These events in a few hundred years, if remembered at all, were only myths and legends. I think the pressure of these events are probably responsible for the subtle unexplained changes in man's development over the eons.In Angel Stones, time has come for another step in man's never-ending development. The problem is governments, some organized religions, and technology stand in the way and must be dealt with. The story centers around Bill, a spiritually disillusioned engineer; David, freelance reporter with a cat named Satan; a woman with an unknown past; and a widowed American Indian. Their lives are profoundly changed, directly and indirectly, by a spiritual individual only known as Adam who, at various times, gives them small pure white stones that radiate energy and feel warm to the touch. All are being watched by two separate shadowy government operatives. Also watching is an unforeseen outside entity that steps in to alleviate all problems.Angel Stones can be read and enjoyed be almost any age. After reading it, you may find yourself looking at the world and life in a slightly different way. Read at your own risk.
Life could be beautiful and idyllic on the little Raptor farm nestled among the shady green forests and sunny meadows of the Big Timber Indian Reservation. But strange and powerful forces were tearing the tiny mission church apart at the seams. Tough and ruggedly handsome Carl Raptor with his coldly competent wife, Charlotte, were raising their small sons in this remote place where the passions and stresses were beyond Carl’s ability to cope. For the Raptor boys, the exhilarating freedom of exploring thousands of acres of wild, game-rich reservation land and thundering their horses down gravel and dirt logging roads would instantly evaporate when their father lost all control and used them to work off his white hot fits of rage. The two oldest sons seemed able to cope, but Michael, the third son, lived in near-constant fear. The beatings and torments increased as Carl’s stress levels rose, and while the welts and bruises on their small bodies healed fairly quickly, the emotional and psychological scarring of Michael’s soul would take many years to heal. This is his story.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Melvin L. Jones. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised on the south side of town. I am one of six children. I have three brothers and two sisters. We were brought up in a home by my uncle, an Alpha male type, my mother and grandmother. They were strong people and they instilled in us high moral Christian values. We were taught by example that in life if you don't put in, don't expect much reward in return.I was educated at Charles S. Deneen grammar school and Chicago Vocational high school. I joined the U.S. Army upon graduation and as a result of my military experience, in conjunction with what I had been taught at home, I made the transition into manhood. During the years that have transpired, I have lived my life on a daily basis with a no-nonsense approach. Accepting life on its own terms and facing it down.I am a man who believes that what reflects from the inside indicates how well the individual is fighting his inner battles. The battle in which he seeks to win his immortality by way of salvation or suffer a defeat that is equally eternal.A conflict fought on a battlefield where sometimes the lines are drawn so thin that if he is not careful, he may inadvertently step across into what is un-fondly referred to as the dark side.I believe that if your selected weaponry is a full knowledge of what is right, fair, honest, and true, the power of God will intercede in your behalf, securing a guarantee of your victory, assuring your salvation, and during the interim, as I aforementioned, your life will reflect the path you have taken. In my writing, this is the fundamental message I attempt to express.Melvin L. Jones

Healthy, I loved running and walking for hours on end. Relaxing feeling as the wind blowing through my hair, listening to music through earphones, without a care in the world. Teaching early morning aerobics at 5:30 a.m., enjoyable never a problem, enjoyed dancing to the music. One decision driving home from work changed my life forever. Should I wait for the accident ahead to clear, or take an alternate route home? I took the alternate route. Technically, was this meant to be, or is this my punishment for being so impatient?Fender bender accident, whiplash from behind, nothing too serious (at least that's what I thought at first), pushed into the car in front, my car looked like an accordion. Both ends of my car were crushed. Slammed my left side of my head and ear, not sure where they hit as everything happened so fast. Instantly, my left ear kept ringing; it wouldn't stop ringing. It was impossible to sleep. I retired to bed fine. I woke up the following morning in a complete silent world. Trying to sleep in total silence was becoming a nightmare; becoming afraid of the dark as my mind imagines dangers I cannot control, creating panic attacks, and restless sleep. I lived in fear of trying to sleep as my mind never shuts off. My mind wanders looking for something it can never find, often times waking up in a cold sweat, screaming out for help.Tested with an MRI to diagnose a brain tumour, stroke, MS, spinal tap testing for meningitis-all clear. A mystery medically still never solved. Retired to bed fine, no ear ache (never had any) and woke up deaf. Only legible medical cause has to be the fender bender whiplash accident, no other explanation. I've never suffered with any ear problems my entire life, never an ear ache, infection, nothing."If you can't fly, then run. If you can't run, then walk. If you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward" (Martin Luther King Jr.).
I decided to write these police stories to share with others and to give some insight into how police work and feel. I described real events from my view as a police officer. I also considered the perspectives of others affected by police actions and inactions. For those who are thinking about a career in law enforcement, I hope that this book provides some information to assist you with this serious decision. For those who are already in law enforcement, I hope this helps maintain high levels of honor and commitment. I also hope you accept that you have flaws in your organization and bring it to a higher level. Motivating hardened police officials to raise standards and to motivate peers is a formidable challenge.By reading this book, I hope that citizens and law enforcement personnel will expect high standards in the law enforcement professionals serving their community. I hope that this book either helps you improve the integrity in your organization or encourages people without integrity to find another career. With utmost respect for those who do this job well,G.
